As far as my son goes , I went to the USA embassy when he was 9 motnhs old and since I still had my residence in the USA I was able to get a Birth of USA Citizen Born Abroad certificate for him , so yes he is a USA citizen . It wasnt a given though, USA requires proof USA citizen parent is living in the USA or has been the previous 5 years , otherwise embassay can deny the USA passport citizenship until child can demonstrate living in USA 5 years

I have a folio number given to me 5/2007 for a completed residency application . To date still have not had any answers . This is residency through marriage . However , the attorney I used claims I still have to leave every 90 days and I also asked immigration on the 2nd floor of the airport , they say I have to leave every 90 days irregardless of any number . On the flip side your not the first to say one doesn’t have to leave . I think there are 2 sets of law books in Costa Rica and no one knows which one is the official one .

Well got my DL and aside from the cost , 10,000 for the DL and another 14,000 for the “medical exam ” and blood test, it was a fast and friendly experience. Went directly to COSEVI in La Uruca since I wanted to get the whole thing done in 1 day and not make an appointment with BCR . Parking was very ample , the guard was friendly and helpfull, and the waiting was only about 20 minutes for the whole thing . I was impressed , it was faster than back in the USA. Finally something went smooth and painless here . This place is definitely an upgrade over the old building they used in the past.

Forget about the consulate , they are a bunch of knuckleheads . You dont’ need anything notorized either. The vet form with the USDA seal is all you need as far as paperwork goes .

I just brought a puppy last month from the USA . Basically Costa Rica authorities require the international vet form to be filled out as well as stamped by the USDA within 30 days of entering , and a current rabies shot. The rabies vacine for the pet has to be current or have had it at least 30 days before traveling if it has not had one yet . Puppies for example will be exempt from the rabies shot if that is what you have .

However , the airline may tell you different , they may have stricter requirements , like the vet forms stamped by the USDA within 10 days of travel , as was my case with United Airlines. First check with the airlines you will use and see what they require as they will be more strict than what Costa Rica wants . Next set up your visit with the vet and have the USDA appointment made soon after .

The vet I used charged me $50 for the international form , which probably is cheaper , I’ve paid $20 once before on another pet I brought in , the USDA charged $24 for their signature , and the airline will make sure you have your pet in the proper air approved carrier. If the pet is small enough to fit inside the small size airline transport carrier , it can travel on board with you . Otherwise it’s special cargo.

Once arriving in Costa Rica , go past immigration line then down stairs to customs area . If your pet is in special cargo , as soon as you get downstairs , go toward the left back wall and there will be a belt your pet will come out of . Afterward simply go to customs baggage check and give the forms to the customs agent , they will smile , pet your animal , and your on your way .

If you can read spanish , pick up ” A Lo Tico ” by Alf. A. Giebler Simonet . You should find at it most CR book stores . Here you will find all the Tico sayings, slangs , and just words only a CR would say . I’ve used alot of what’s printed in here in my converstaions and even the Ticos are impressed how Tico like I can speak. Good luck

Which lenders here can loan money for purchases ? Banco Improsa and Banco Nacional apparently are not lending at this time . I have had a unprofessional experience with HSBC . Can you recommend any other bank that lends in CR . Good credit and 40% down payment .

Call what you like, but it’s their culture and country , if that’s how things get done in CR , then that’s the way it is. I’ve seen dozens and dozens of things get done the “easy ” way by Costa Ricans amongst themselves , which is why I personally couldnt say corruption, more like part of society.

I’ll have to check his passport , but the first 2 years I had to get the temporary stamp good for 1 trip, before I got the permanent one , he is 4/12 so , Id say 2 years ago .
