A little know fact, by many people in the States, is that you don’t have to take your vehicle back to the leasing company when the lease has ended or during the lease period or negotiate with them ever again. Unless you want to negotiate by telling them the vehicle is a burden and you may file bankruptcy… That will make them stand up and take notice.

Take you vehicle and lease paper to any dealer and trade for a car you want. This may cost you a little bit, but it is not a hassle at all. There will be no way a mortgage company will let you take the vehicle out of the States either. Pay it off first.

There are many great vehicles to purchase in Costa Rica… and many people willing to sell. Buy a vehicle there.

I have heard many bad stories on the Great Wall vehicle, made in China.

    crayzrj…

I had that question some time back, as I had the same marajuana charge from the ’60s… I had the same results…

I had asked and this is the response:

    “Dear All,
As a lawyer in Costa Rica with Lang & Asociados, http://www.langcr.com, I am able to sketch an answer for you:

One important condition to obtain residency in Costa Rica is file a certain number of documents, among which a certified criminal record.

A clean police record certificate is always the best option to join to the application. Thus, if you are able to obtain such a certificate, which will be sufficient for the immigration authorities in Costa Rica, then that should be your first choice.

However, an “unclean” record is not, per se, an obstacle to obtaining residenceship in Costa Rica and it all depends on the kind of felony and the time elapsed.

In cases when the record only shows minor charges -“contravenciones”- from a long time ago, when you where a “kid” for instance, it is very unlikely that the immigration authorities will take this into account, unless the kind of misdemeanor refers to -for instance- a sexual matter, etc.

Instead, and although CR is indeed a conservative country on narcotic issues, drug consumption or holding -as a misdemeanor- while being a teenager or youngman is generally not an issue for obtaining your residency, all the more if this happened many years ago.

However, no sure advice may be given without reviewing the certificate itself, since, as stated before, it will depend on the kind of charges and the time when they took place.

If you wish for us to have a closer look at your situation and assist you with your residency, you may contact me at this e-mail address or visit http://www.langcr.com for more info on residency status.

    Best Luck, Carlos D. AnguloLang & Asociadoscdangulo@langcr.com

    Scott is ABSOLUTELY correct…

You will need that little piece of paper with permission to cut trees anywhere.

I have seen a project that were totally stopped from building… Punishments were handed down… And they MIGHT be able to build in six months. These were single lots for single family homes. They had not followed the rules.

MINAE is the authority that you should prompt for permission to cut trees…

The local municipality will need to be asked for permission to move dirt, also.

Follow their rules and you will be fine…

I assume you are trying to access your account online through the web.

    What bank are you using?

Did you get an International Debit Card or a CR Only use card?

What are you trying to do online?

This will segregate the people that can help you.

That’s because they had run out of GSM lines and numbers. TDMA was the only thing left at that time you received your number. Eventually, in the future, everyone will be switched to the GSM network. As soon as ICE gets it together, and I don’t mean the lines.

I hope you are enjoying the fantastic solitude…

I don’t know the time frame you were last in Costa Rica, but upgrades to the system are in place with more towers.

The phone you used was probably on the TDMA network.

New services and the future of cellular will be with the GSM network, which is the one that T-Moblie connects in Costa Rica and the rest of the world.

Generally, you can rent a ICE cellular for $6 to $8 a day and with a weekly or monthly rental rate you could get a better deal.

You have supplied much information and I would like for you to see the following article, printed in AMCostaRica.com. Global Crossing will have a better presence and is preparing to connect the Western seaboard of Costa Rica to the World.

    Due in January each year…

I don’t believe they differ in each municipality. It wouldn’t make sense to have different dates for each area…

I pay in San Ramon every January.

For the last few years, I have been transporting various items from Wal-Mart in the States to Costa Rica. Several friends in CR have requested items they found on the Wal-Mart website.

With the price of many items in Costa Rica at a high, I would hope that Wal-Mart could get the pricing down.

Many of the new Mega stores that are popping up in Costa Rica have pricing that just floors me. When last in the Jaco Beach area, there is a new Mega store where I wanted to purchase a cooler. The price was 3 to 4 times higher than in the states.

I don’t know how the Ticos afford these pricey stores, for all the products they carry.

in reply to: Buying a car in Costa Rica – Gas or Diesel? #180062

As of this morning, I have read that Super and Regular gas pricing could change to a lower price and the price of Diesel will increase. This has not taken effect until after a December hearing. The difference in pricing between Regular and Diesel will be approximately 50 colones or .09 cents.

One of the biggest difference in the future is what Scott mentioned, biodiesel. There are several people starting biodiesel manufacturing facilities in Costa Rica. There is suppose to be a manufacturer in San Jose, but I can’t locate them. I use biodiesel in my 06 Jetta.

Rudolf Diesel invented the diesel engine to run on peanut oil in the late 1800’s, but petro diesel was cheaper at that time and peanut oils was not used.

Another difference from a gas engine is that the diesel engine will have a longer life and is less expensive to repair. It is a more simple engine.

I would suggest a diesel engine vehicle for the above two reasons.
