Perhaps it is not that you need to get more familiar with the culture but perhaps you need to look at your ad. The wording may not have been translated correctly. Most resumes that I’ve read here are not written exactly the same as resumes in the US but they are similar.

I’d look at rewording the ad, if you did not get many responses it may be becausw of what you are saying. Please send me privately your job announcement, there are a lot of people very well qualified with skills in Technology, Engineering, Administration and Computer Science, who are looking for jobs. Those who speak English are in high demand. There are several young professionals that belong to my facebook page and I can post your job announcement on my facebook page.

I think it is wonderful, now these young women will have some young men to chose from and not all these old goats. You can count the ships, but I’ll count the young men coming. WOW, boom shockalaka, boom shockalaka, boom. The ships are not what tickles my fancy but the young men on board will be a plus after seeing all these old goats getting off the plane and marrying these girls that should be their great grand daughters. Oh will this statement light a fire.

By the way all of you that are so dicussed with the US there is one thing you have not given up and that is your passport. Just burn it.

You do have your Costa Rican citizenship? They will talk about it now Scott, “Shalom”

In my community and in many of the communities we have Costa Ricans who worked in the US for a lot of years doing administrative work. They know the system, customs and how to work with Americans. Plus these people will have referrances that you will be able check with companies they worked for in the USA. I think if you just put an ad in the local news paper people will respond. Here in Grecia we have a lot of people with just such qualifications. No salary wise, you may want to reconsider what you are offering to get the best. Right now getting qualified people in Costa Rica with a good command of the English language is very competitive with the competition coming from many N. American companies hiring in CR>

Does anyone know where to buy “rock salt” to be used for making ice cream. Somewhere near Santa Ana or Escazu would be helpful.
Might try HiperMas or EPA.
Oh Yes I sure know where to get some rock salt in Grecia. They have a salt factory here and I purchase about 2kg at a time. We have to swap recipes, I love making homemade ice cream. You can not purchase good quality ice cream that is all ice cream and not chemical ice cream. I you would like to know where the salt company is located in Grecia please contact me. This is your luck day I have not looked at the forum for a long time “wow”

Please come to visit, it would be nice if you could come and visit Costa Rica before moving here. Visit the various areas and talk to people living in those areas. Almost everyone who jumps up and moves over here, move back home with in a year or less.

Many of the small B&B owned by Canadians or N. Americans know people in the community that will gladly share their experiences with you. Moving is very costly and nothing really is better then your personal experience.

I know you asked the guys but is it okay to give you a womans opinion. Most of us marry and spend very little time together unless we are fortunate to work together in a business. When my husband retired we discovered we had so little in common. He liked TV and I don’t, he liked musice playing in the house and I like silence. He got up early and I went to bed very late. He ate three times a day and after one meal all I need are snacks. The first year was rough, we capitalized on what we enjoyed together, and that was going to the gym. He played racquet ball and I used the treadill and bicycle. We would spend a couple hours in the gym doing our own thing. We tried very hard to meet in the middle, plus it is great to finally get to really know your spouse after all those years. You don’t really need any new interest because if you take time to discover each other you will find new interest. The thing to remember is that it is not all about you, nor is it all about her. Retirement gives you the opportunity to discover who you really are and do something about it. Time to care for yourself both physically and mentally. Work on your health and nutrition, that can be a full time job. Exercise your mind by challenging it. Find new areas of interest, enjoy your new life, look forward to every day. Sometimes our fear is not about spending a lot of time with our partner, sometimes our greatest fear is spending time with ourselves.

Thanks Keith, this year has been rough but good. Little by little I’m getting things together. My biggest problem is not having someone to blame (smile)

Thanks for the information. I was looking for a banking alternative here in Costa Rica. It seems HSBC is a great place to put a few dollars. With things being really very scary right now it is always good to get valuable information. Again thanks

    Hello,

It is so funny, I just mentioned to a women’s group called Bloom Where You are Planted about attending the church in our community in Grecia. My husband and I attend a non-Catholic church, we are shouting Christians and love loud music, clapping and a little foot stomping. We attended the church for two years and really could not understand much, but just being in the presence of people who love and worship God was wonderful. We are still in the church, we purchased a headset for translation of the preaching and teaching in English. We invite many guest, it is wonderful, we love it, plus the church is in our community and we are not separating ourselves from the Christians here in Costa Rica. Their is an English speaking Jehovah Witness group here in Grecia also. I’ve met a lot of them they are nice people, love the Lord and they are very active in the community. Costa Rica has several religions, and many of them are represented here in Grecia. I would guest that about 60% of the people are Catholic and the other 40% are other denominations. The Baptist have a great ministry here in Costa Rica, we have hosted many missionaries from various denominations

One of the things I’ve learned is everyone has a different opinion on what is clean, what is hot and what taste good. I like sleeping on a mattress that is regular size for big people, that is people over 5′ tall. I enjoy a queen size bed and when I go to a hotel or B&B, I want towels and a wash clothe. I enjoy the comforts of a nice room, spacious and comfortable. Difference in taste, and according to my taste, I’ve not found accommodations suitable that were less then $60.00 per night. The same way with breakfast, rice and beans every day is not a good breakfast for me.

Yes, I am a spoiled North American and old, to old to stay in hotels, Pensions or B&B’s that does not have some comforts. That is my taste and according to my taste, I have not found any accommodations suitable for under $60.00.

I would be in error to say all of those that cost more are always clean and never have any insects or mice. I have found dirt in some of your most expensive accommodations.

I agree with Alfred, I’ve learned something as well. People talking to each other is the key and solution to many problems. It is not only the cost of health care it is the way that health care is administered. I see CR falling into that same trap, my workers want a pill for everything. Most of them know about natural things to do for simple colds and headaches but the go get tha quick fix from the Pharmacy.

I have to go to the gym, this morning, I am working on a 7 year plan. It did not take me one day to get in this fix and it will take more then a day to get out of it. We have to remind ourselves that patiences is very important. A rapid quick fix has it’s long term problems.

Even with our coming presidential election and some of the fixes they have talked about for health care. All of us really need to look at what they are saying, so we will see the advantage and not big business see the advantage.

They may do any new health care programs like they did the intergration program of the sixties. A simple request was made for equal education and they started busing kids all over town, increased the cost of school operations and lowered the financial capablity for a better education. Instead of more school equipment and better salaries we got children being bussed all over the place.

The program could have been more effective if we the people would have voiced our thoughts, but instead we allowed them to develop the plan. I believe that a requirement should be, prior to any development of plans, there should be a board of people formed from all walks of life that can give in put and we develop our health care plans from that input.

Got to go to the gym, we the people. I dont care what any one says we do still have a voice.
