It is to bad these have to end up being about an issue other than the real issue. The government taking action again him regardless of where he was born or what religion he is would be the real issue… This type of government attack on sucessful people is the issue. The U.S. need to stop an over reaching oppressive government.

I have to totally agree with Scott on this and that doesn’t happen often when he involves politics.
”Eduardo Saverin was born in São Paulo, Brazil, to a wealthy Jewish Brazilian family, and was raised in Miami, Florida. Eduardo’s father was a Brazilian industrialist working in export, clothing, shipping, and real estate…. Saverin has lived in Singapore since 2009.”

Instead of governments waking up to the fact that they need to provide services and incentives to keep their citizens happy, to attract billionaires and investments to their shores – like Singapore where there is very low income tax and no capital gains or inheritance taxes – the U.S. wants to create laws to scare the crap out of them?

Brilliant move which is guaranteed to backfire!

We should also remember that people like Saverin can obviously afford to hire the best estate planning attorneys in the world, they can create tax advantaged multi-jurisdictional trusts and foundations and offshore insurance companies to protect their assets, as always it will be the regular guy who will suffer the consequences…

From a related article:

Phil Hodgen, an international tax lawyer in Pasadena, Calif., said that in the last three years, new and old rules had created an enormous amount of resentment — and paperwork expenses — for expatriates.

I hate to way in on this issue but I don’t think there is any questions that Scott has publish several articles lately that are not positive on the Untied States. Bashing? Several I don’t agree with but clearly I think showing more views is always a good thing. I have my own blog site and I am fine with those that don’t agree with me posting. Looking at the issue from different sides is what is important. I have no problem with the story on the troops going to Costa Rica but I do wonder why so many. Good call on that article Scott. This last article on the Text of H.R. 5741: Universal National Service Act is an important article and it may hit you as negative but I had missed that. I’m glad Scott posted it and although a lot of the article is way out there the subject is very valid and should scare you if you still live in the states. It concerns me for our kids and their children since we are way past the age to worry.

Let us all agree that Scott does a service by putting articles out that start a conversation even if they do seem to be slanted to negative toward the United States lately. We should all agree it is good to get all sides and decide for ourselves as an earlier poster said we are big people and can make up our own mind.

I think you all have made very good points. I would hope everyone would take their time to checkout a possible new home. I can tell you from experience that even in the states it is the same. Having moved to Florida 10 yrs ago I still remember 1/2 the people moving into my complex would be gone in a year and many in less time. Florida is a great place if you can live on less than you did up north, if you don’t mind things happening at a slower pace. The is in a state with the same laws and language we already understood. We look forward to many more visits to Costa Rica before making the big move and have several years to work on it. Thanks to everyone who shares their experiences with the rest of us.

I would also like to thank Scott for his great web site. I was considering Paragon until reading what the people were posting and decided to wait and follow the story. Thank you for all the warnings.

Thanks for the response Speedo5,
I’m glad to hear 1st hand about the tour. We thought it looked and sounded like it would be a good step to next years trip. Have to say we live in Florida so I don’t see the heat as a problem but do want a look at real life not the show.

Speedo5,
We are considering a George Lundquist’s tour next year. It looks like a great way to get another view of the country and some real views of the country. How did you find the tour and did you think it helped you to decide on Costa Rica?

Thank you all for the feedback. We are looking at a move in about 5 to 7 years and want to take the time to research and get 1st hand experince before any decision. Living in Fla now I’m fine with weather in the mid 70 – mid 80’s range. After following the board for sometime we do know that the different regions offer different things and that is the reason for wanting to find and over view guided tour to get that 1st overview to build on. I am convince that George does sound like a tour to take once we start to narrow areas if he offers a tour in that area.
