Second floor veranda next to the Maxi Pali on main street Jaco.
He doesn’t speak English, but am pretty sure he understands more than he lets on.
He has been very good to us – friendly and honest.
He is in Jaco on Monday and Wednesday mornings if I remember correctly.
I’m sorry – I don’t have a phone number handy.
Good luck!

We also had dealings with CR Homes. And Yes, Scott, we have every damning e-mail to and from. But it’s all moot. πŸ˜•

When we first went to CR and advised our realtor that we had all the shots, etc for “Montezuma’s revenge” he was quite taken aback and said “Why? We have the purest water in the world!” Not quite true but pretty close! Ha! Ha! πŸ˜›

Thank you Scott and Barbara Ann!
Scott, you’re 100% correct All we need is “one serious buyer”. The “Realtor” who sold it to us in the first place has gone back to the states. I really don’t think of it as all that “remote” though . . . . half hour to Jaco and about 40 minutes to Orotina. Tarcoles has pretty decent groceries. We’ve been truly happy with our visits to our home here, but sometimes you get bit in the ass and your life takes a huge direction change.
Thank you Barb for the Kijiji connection. Will try that as well. Selling it online makes it pretty hard for viewings though . . . .
Have a GREAT day you two! πŸ˜€

What is the difference between “Active” and “Inactive” anyway??? Am thinking we have been also given wrong info. We don’t live in CR, but we own a home we travel to on a regular basis. We pay the corporation taxes yearly and last year’s was about 183.00 if I remember correctly. We also have another corporation that we do not use and were told by our lawyer that if we do not pay the taxes for three years, it becomes “Inactive” and we can no longer access it. Fine with us! So confusing! 😯

Thank you guys. What I need most is how to calculate vacation pay and stat pay for a part time (few hours/week) person. I have been told time and one half stat pay whether the day is worked or not and two week holiday pay equivalent to a full time 40 hour/week person. I have gone to the Labour Law sites but there is no information regarding part time people. If The above is correct, then the calculations would be simple. I just need confirmation that the above is correct. Thanks! πŸ˜†

Being new to this, I was hoping someone could explain how to calculate the Aguinaldo (spelling that right?) holiday pay, stat holiday pay. anything else that needs to be paid by, I am told December 20? We have a Part time person and can only find information for full time (40+ hours/week). We want to make sure we are doing this right. If anyone could private message me with their phone number, I could call after work during the week or anytime over a weekend. Thanks all! :D
Please note that this is a Discussion Forum where we Discuss things together in the Forum so that we can all learn, it is not a private messaging service.

Having said that we have an article on this site that may answer your question:

Christmas Employee’s Bonus – ‘Aguinaldo’ is mandatory in Costa Rica

Oh – I’m so sorry, Scott! I just thought I have so many questions, I would be just wasting space here but you are so right! We’re all here to learn so can anyone please tell me how to correctly and legally calculate vacation pay and stat pay for our gardener who works a few hours a week? I was told he needs to be paid nine stats at double time (even if he didn’t work them) and be paid two full weeks vacation pay the same as a full time person working a 40 hour week. If this is true, please let me know. I have tried to find this on the Costa Rican Labour Law sites, but they all address full time people – nothing about part time, occasional or hourly.

Hi Scott – I just went to the Min. Sal. site you posted above and it seems all “Qualified” trades (carpenter, plumber, painter, electrician, gardner) are the same as the Guia Turistico example you used above. 8749.838. I don’t mean to question your math, but are you SURE a QUALIFIED Electrician is $17.70 per day? That’s about what the electrician I have been using is charging me an HOUR!

I just relayed this forum topic to a friend from Florida who said she has NEVER heard of any Costa Rican having a problem entering the USA. Eveyone from her lawyer from Grecia to her Tica landlady from Tarcoles comes and goes to the US on a regular basis. Being from Canada and having a Tico friend we would love to have visit us here, I guess we had better find out what Canadian laws have to say on this subject!

Thanks guys! While we do have property in CR, we live in Canada. However, a Canadian friend (20 year resident of Tarcoles) e-mailed me about homes she has actually seen demolished (one in front of the owner and his lawyer). I guess there have been meetings with the Muni with no resolve – thus the rumors. Being curious, I thought I may get information here. Oh well! Have a Happy New Year! πŸ™‚

I gather you neither live in the area nor have any idea why the dozing is going on? “Rumors” are from just about everyone living in the area – bulldozing is a fact, that naturally, start rumors! I am only interested in knowing why the bulldozing? If anyone knows that . . . . πŸ™‚
