This is a hit and miss service. So much so, that ICE has reduced the cost in many areas. As is the speed.
First you need to purchase the device, and may have to ‘hunt’ for it. Check first at your local ICE office.

I would suggest a phone call or visit to a broker who can tell you what you want to know.

This has been discussed many times before, on a variety of CR forums, and still people are importing from the USA, so it seems like there are no savings, except the shipping if it is a personal vehicle that one has shipped with their personal belongings or personally imported.
You have to pay duty/tax it based on the Costa Rican ‘book rate’ wherever the vehicle originates.

Scott,, my experience is the same as yours, in that everyone pulls over very quickly here…

mtr1000 take the time to look around, but only look!
Don’t purchase anything until you have visited a few times, and checked out various areas.
And if the realtor tells you that everyone is now purchasing property here, don’t believe him or her!
Take off the rose colored glasses and see what is really here and see if it what you want.
It is so easy to buy…and so hard to sell.

scottsmailwhy don’t you wait to post your comments until you are actually living here, and thieves and worse have broken into your home?
Yes, we have live here long enough to have been robbed 4 times, our dogs poisoned and left dead on our doorstep. Also long enough to legally purchase guns to protect our home if necessary.
We would much rather just take them outside and use them on our ‘practice range’ and let others in the vicinity that we do have them.
And they do know

The previous Canadian Ambassador to Costa Rica has been working with WestJet, Canada’s low cost airline, on behalf of all the Canadians living and vacationing here, into starting direct flights from Western Canada, into Costa Rica, hopefully Liberia, starting this fall.
We will keep our fingers crossed …..

I’m not quite sure on what happened there…

Anyway, I wanted to edit my post to read ”Our workers wife and adult son were involved in a vehicle accident yesterday, at 6am,(on their way to an appointment in SJ with a private specialist to ‘see what he could suggest to fix a botched operation’ that was done in the Liberia CAJA hospital last December and which CAJA will not perform) which resulted in our friend being admitted to the hospital in Cañas. She was later transported by my husband due to no ambulances being available, to Liberia where she waited all night in emergency. Our worker has returned this morning to find out ‘what is going on’.

My friend a Canadian who had just married a Tico had told us her first major ‘faux pas’ when she asked for ‘viagra for her husband instead of vinagre(vinegar)
Of course, I can’t remember mine, since there has been too many….

There was an article a week or two ago, online, but I couldn’t find it again, where another young Canadian woman said she went to Europe (I think it was) for a ‘similar surgery’ for cystic fibrosis and ”the procedure also involved the widening of the veins” and said the difference was unbelievable and she was intending to run a marathon next month, just a few months after her surgery.

Irony you don’t say whether you have either been to Costa Rica or to the Province of Limon.
It is wise to check out in person the area where this ‘estate’ is being built. While improvements are being made in the area, it still leaves a lot to be desired by many due to the lack of infrastructure.
In the news this week there was an announcement regarding the new docking facilities. You may consider this good or bad…
I suggest if you really like what you see, wait for a while until you see homes, that are actually being built.
And for the international airport…seeing is believing!

Anyone flying to Costa Rica without a return ticket may be barred from boarding!
If your flight originated in Costa Rica, then returns to CR, you will not be in possession of a return flight to your home country…unless you are a Resident.
If you search through the posts on this website, you will find what can and has happened.
