Escazu and Naranjo are kilometers apart. My doctor is in Naranjo only. I have failed to post his number and name here since his receptionist does not speak English. Therefore, I like to warn him of a friend or referral I am sending his way. Then if you call speaking only English you can make contact with him or his daughter-doctor since both speak excellent English.

Naranjo does not have a big expat community so my doctor’s English speaking patients are generally by referral.

Let me know if you need the information.

If you mean coming in on your CR Cédule/a blue Costa Rica passport, I would say “yes” quicker. But in May when I came in on my Cédule as “residente pensionado” for my very first time after I moved here 09/11/2013, the immigration officer at SJO asked for my USA passport and then scanned my passport into their data base. Since my US passport was not scanned that I recall when I entered in in 2013 on my Cédule-approval letter, I thought on my May trip back (again, my very first I moved here), was something new. Maybe you need to stop worrying about what is quicker but completely understand what you need to do what other citizens of Costa Rica are required to do when they return. Since that is what you ate also doing in order to live here legally. I doubt if the Costa Rica cares you are carrying two different national passports at all.

Yes, my doctor in Naranjo if you are in the Grecia area. Only still charging new patients an initial 25,000 for physical every six month or so; Acupuncture 6000 a session; and he can write both private and CAJA prescriptions for you. Good English skills, studied at the University of Paris pharmacology and his daughter who also speaks English practices with him, but no Acupuncture. Write an email for full details, just know you will need Spanish help with the front desk by phone. If you area in the area, I can direct you to the best pizza parlor in all of Costa Rica. Further shopping is both cheaper and many goods abundant like I have never seen elsewhere in Pura Vida.
With having my temporary residence do I have to leave the country for 72 hours to maintain my drivers license or can I just go to border and go through and come right back.
Why don’t you ask your lawyer handling the application what you need to do? When I came in on my “residenete pensionado” approval-letter September 11, 2013, the immigration officer gave me a 90-day tourists visa and told even though my actual Cédula appointment for it to be issued 45 days after the tourist visa would expired, I had no requirement to leave the country in order to obtain another 90-day tourist visa. If you have been issued an acceptance letter for your pending application I would think that would be enough your driver’s license issue. But again, you need to be asking the Tico or Tica making your particular application. I will keep my fingers crossed that your are using a Costa Rica professional to help you!

Pregnant or indignant? Well we ever know the full truth? I would stick with pregnant because it make the story more sinister! 😀

in reply to: renounce citizenship. #160595

No, because you can’t EVER renounce the Internal Revenue Service’s statutory control over your personal finances! Why? As as a private citizen you don’t the ability to get away from the control of the United States period, the IRS will always be waiting.

But if you are a corporation in the United States like say Burger King, you can cease to be an US corporation, change your tax relationship with our national legal system, and live happily ever after as a citizen of Canada!

We Americans are now in the period of our history where corporations our our most important class of citizenship, our 1% ruling oligarch has the complete tax breaks and the rest of us of 99% of citizens are suspect by the first two.

What President Nixon tried to do the Constitution behind White House Watergate closed doors, President Bush Jr did in the his Patriot Act in the name of defense of the realm” with one swipe of his pen! Now we are free of terrorists thus far, but the majority majority of us citizens are not free of the political system setup to defend the “fatherland” through our finances.

Again no need to make it illegal since you can never get rid of the IRS in your life even after you are six feet under!

The market at the bus station en el centro is open Monday through Saturday. Their price are much cheaper and most of the stalls are equally as fresh as the feria.

I would suggest that the quickest learning experience for what you are seeking is George Lundquist’s tour on Retiring on your Social Security.

George is a man who is more than willing share his experiences and opinions about your objectives here in Costa Rica. See this link, http://www.costaricaretireonss.com/.

Also make certain you read Scott Oliver’s book that are available here on the site. This two pronged approach and study will serve you well in your quest!

in reply to: Plumbing issues & disposal of toilet paper! #173789

Your toilet paper can turn into fine compose for your garden if you are so inclined. Otherwise you can continue to always trust the compose of the animals of strangers you never met!

Don’t worry about it, it is all part of the world-wide international gay conspiracy we gay people are involved in these days.

When you sleep at night, we are plotting the downfall of civilization. But in actuality, I think the reason this was slipped through was pretty simple, lots of gay people have lots of cash for their retirement.

Since the straight retirement cash has slowed recently in Costa Rica, why should Ecuador, Argentina and other countries in the region get all the “gay” cash? /quote]

in reply to: CAJA Costs #161562
Thanks for the reply…..hhmmmm, need to come up with a new plan. We have 1 pension in one name, that pension is 3000 a month.

If you are eligible for Social Security use only that document for both of you. You get that notarized at the US Embassy San José at the Social Security Section. It took me 20 minutes in October with my appointment. Full information is on the Embassy website under benefits. If you are already drawing your monthly payout from SSA, you still will be to get your official letter at the Embassy. The letter they send you for your award in the States will not do it. It is not what the Costa Rica government requires. I hope you both are able to substitute you Social Security payout for the current pension. Also, have you thought to ask your pension fund to give you an a notarized award letter for just the amount you need for two people? That should be that difficult for them to do that for you I would think.

in reply to: cellphones from the states #171002

I have used T-Mobile’s WiFi calling for the past two years when in Orosi and the Cartago area. It worked perfectly. I even had a T-Mobile rep tell me that he thought even after I move in September that the TM WiFi calling would work with my contact list is I can find free WiFi which there are several in Orosi.

We will have to wait and see if that will be possible if I put a CR Sim card into the phone. The rep also said if I did that, since it is a factory installed app, that when I found free WiFi, I could access the WiFi calling.

Could this really be? I will have to wait to see.

    Thanks,

in reply to: How do you open a bank account, without Dimex #161147

I used my attorney to setup mine in 2008 in Orosi. It took several trips for additional notarized information, but since he setup the corporation, he was my best source for completion and success. Finally, he allowed me to carry my whole file to the bank for their inspection which seemed to circumvent additional notarization costs.

You should ask you lawyer for the name of a acquaintance at the bank of choice. I only will deal with BNCR because of the protection of their deposits have under the Constitution of Costa Rica. Private banks in Pura Vida has no equivalent of FDIC insurance if they fail, they fail with the depositors hold the bag. I don’t think the government will even investigate their failure on your behalf.

If you do open a dollar or colones account with BNCR, make certain you get yourself a “ficha” (token) for 6,000 colones or you will not be able to add accounts inside your BNCR account for the payees you want to be able to electronically pay while you are out of the country. I now finally got my property account installed for I can pay my property taxes each quarter all 6,000 colones of it.

If you have a recommendation/introduction to the bank from your attorney/notary of record for your corporation, you might be more successful then walking in cold off the street. I resisted the effort for a corporate account for a personal $$ account when I was asked my choice at the bank branch in Orosi. For this I did not have feedback from my attorney, I just made the choice. Later he told me it would serve me just fine.

Remember this, in Costa Rica if you have introduction to a branch manager, that manager will take great pride in remember you in the future. This is a country where introductions still mean something and people are very glad to see you. This is not longer true in the United States, we lost this value about 40 years ago.

    Good Luck,

in reply to: Unlocked U.S. Bought Cell Phones #165982

In 2011, I bought a Deejay World Phone from amazon.com. It worked very well. This year, 2012, I forgot it but then I purchased a $40 Nokia from a local store in Orosi and 30-day SIM card and I was good to go. You might want to check out DeeJay World Phones of Amazon, just make sure it is an International phone. At any rate, you can pick up a SIM card after get off the plane and start to walk to towards Immigration and Customs at the ICE kiosk.

I heard Mr. Zeller speak at the ARCR seminar in October. You must get his take on what constitutes “luggage” in Costa Rica. It is both informative and funny! He could do stand up comedy in Las Vegas if he wanted.

The handout from the seminar from his firm is worth it’s weight in gold. I am currently waiting for a quote from him for using the pallet, boxes 7 ft high method which recommended to me. Since I have such a small amount to move, the final price and import will be my deal breaker.

If it is too much money, then I will slowly replace things I need with garage sales of people moving back to the states.
