Gee I checked http://www.airfare.com your dates, 12/9 to 12/12, for PDX-DEN-SJO RT, and found a fare for $373. Good grief for this price is Frontier going to make me get out and push the plane for airspeed? I have been flying Frontier in the US for about year and impressed with their service, online and fares.

Gee this trip could be had for under a $1000 for the whole nine days! What a great bargain!

    Later,

This may not be a big deal but the domain name for attorneyscw.com expired on May 31, 2007.

This sound very British, please tell more! I assume your tasty Rhubarb crumble is the same as an American crisp with oats, butter, flour, vanilla and chopped nuts baked on top.

I just ordered the MP3 disk which is only $19.95 if you already purchased the course. This is a great tool for anyone that has had difficulty with language studies in the past. At least this old fart seems to better able wrap his mind around the subject matter better then in previous attempts to learn a language!

A google search for Cerro Chato Eco Lodge gets you the necessary hits to find the b&b. I see references for it on other website but uncertain they have their own website.

A Scottish friend wrote me a while back that the current rumor in Scotland is that the Lake Ness monster, Nessie as she is also know in the Highlands, had moved to Costa Rica to live the Pura Vida. Could it be by chance her that people are beginning to spot in Lake Arenal?

in reply to: Is our dream even possible??? #183011

    Dear Glen & Christina:

I appreciate your effort in trying to find an answer to your question whether $50,000 is enough to follow your dream. I have spent a lot of time over the past three years wandering the “information highway” of Costa Rica real estate and I think you can. Now I am not saying that you should buy sight unseen, but over a period of time you can find some very exciting ideas that have potential. I am not certain if I should list this link or not but here is example of what one could check out while visiting Costa Rica to see if it was a fit for their goals or not:

    http://www.crlandoffice.com/costa-rica-properties/listing-details/36/

I have watched this property for about six months or so, and to me it seems on the surface and everyone notice I said surface, it might be worth checking out to see if it would work for you. My retirement budget in three years for housing is what you already have in the bank. Is it the amount I would really like to have? “NO,” but it is an amount that can and will work for me. Why? Because I only need one opportunity, only one house that is exciting to me and my goal is finished. I encourage you think through whether you would maybe in better financial position in one more year, or maybe two years or even five years working and savings would give the life you want. I had to do that myself last year and realize I couldn’t take my Social Security at 66 when I am eligible, but need the benefit of work one more year until at 67. It took me about six weeks being mad at myself for not saving more since I was 18 but hey, life is not perfect is it?

Hold on to your goal and your dream…you can figure out how to make it work for the two of you. From this baby boomer’s point of view for to two young people your ages to have saved $50,000, you have done well! I hope you can see it as well because it truly is very well!

In closing, all the books I have read recently on retirement can be summed in this way: all goals in life are negotiable and all goals can and are changeable!

    Thanks,
    Tom

Scott I appreciate the effort you put into making sure people you recommend are worth our time and money! I have three years until I plan to move which is about the middle of 2009. When would you recommend that I make contact with a lawyer concerning immigration issues? My trip in May was just to look around since I haven’t been in Costa Rica since 1988. By the way, your map was well worth the price. Thanks for the speed with which I received it!

I made a reservation for four days in May from the previous posting. Kees and Willeke, the owner of the B&B, seem very nice from the emails I have received. Plus the place looks outstanding so I am very excited about the opportunity to stay with them. Also, the very good news is that you can pay them through paypal which is great!

in reply to: Grand Mall Seizures in Dogs. #182679

    Dear David:

Thanks for all your efforts on this subject. Currently I am weaning my beefy boy from phenobarbital over to potassium bromide. The phenobarbital wasn’t stopping the seizures at all. I think potassium bromide (Br.) might be easier to find in Costa Rica, but here in Portland has a lab to make up the compound for my boy. This has been an event to say the least because the phenobarbital has really been hard on him. My vet is confident that we can make the switch and eventually find the proper dosage that will keep the seizures at bay.

I will not be retiring until June or July 2009 so I have time to find the level drug that will work as well as figure out how to have the same medication in Costa Rica. I start to visit again next month, May 18 to June 2, so over the next three years I will figure out everything I need to do.

Again thanks for all the information you gathered on this subject, it was very helpful.

    Dear David:

Is it the common practice in Costa Rica that vets don’t fill their prescriptions but you have to go a farmacia for everything? Here in Portland I am getting both of the drugs from my vet. The Phenobarbital directly and my vet orders the potassium bromide from a lab who makes the compound and then I get the pills again directly from my vet.

I thought maybe your message was saying that all prescriptions from vets must be taken to your local farmacia.

    Thanks,

I look weekly at a website run by Jim and Rene Aoki for sale by owner. Renee is mentioned in another posting so I have copied over their email address, Rico Realty (Ricorealty@hotmail.com). I have watched both of their sites for over two years, had a few emails exchanges with them and plan to visit with them in late May. Also, I talked to someone who has a posting on their for sale by owner site so I think you should check them out. I think they are ok people.

    Thanks,

Thanks for your posting Julie! I am now in the process of weaning my boy of the phenobarbital to potassium bromide since the phenobarbital is not stopping the clusters. I am currently doing five days of 4 potassium bromide per day along with his 3 phenobarbital twice a day. My vet is going to recommend a slow down turn in the phenobarbital on Saturday once we have the potassium bromide built up in his system. I will be in CR in late May and June so I will keep you posted on what I can learning about vet medicine while I am visiting. Another option is for me to consider writing to the dean of one of the vet schools in the Pacific Northwest and see if any of their graduates have been from CR while asking for a referral. I am sure all of this is possible, we just need to find an English speaking vet who can help us understand if our treatment regime is possible there as it is here.

    Thanks,
    Tom

I guess it can be pretty common these days with all the dogs coming out of puppy mills in the United States. I adopted Mr. Tucker, aka as “the beefy boy,” last year after his senior owner had to give him up for health reason. I am pretty certain this is because he is probably inbred. So many dog breed lines in America these days have been invaded by poor breeding standards due the puppy mill breeders being just after the money. This is the third English springer spaniel I have adopted and the second out of a puppy mill.

    Thanks for asking.
    Tom
