KeymasterI have too many corporations for a variety of online and offline businesses and like most people in Costa Rica, I have not yet paid this (IMHO outrageous) tax…
If you have not paid the tax and have bank accounts in the name of the corporation, it might be a good idea to remove whatever cash and/or investments you have in those accounts just in case they decide to make an “example” out of you.

KeymasterI am happy to put together a list of Recommended builders and other builders with whom one should be extremely cautious with …
The problem always is how can I trust the information that I am receiving?
In the past I received negative reports about a Realtor but it turned out the “negative” reports were false and were coming to me from a disgruntled and very crooked competitor.

KeymasterThe La Nacion article link was included in my summary of the story.
The news story states that: “Un comerciante está en la cárcel desde el jueves pasado por no pagar la cuota de pensión de enero, que fue de ¢5,6 millones (¢3,6 del monto mensual, más ¢2 millones de salario escolar) a favor de su hija de seis años.“

KeymasterAs always, you are entitled to your opinion davidd…
I am certainly not “blind” when it comes to making a living online and as you know, I have made a fairly good living online for a decade now!
The new online business I am involved with is based on an already proven online business system, you can call that “regurgitate” if you wish…
The commission earned by the people I know (without ever having to make telephone sales calls) who are already involved are very “real” indeed.
Some people might say that in copying millions of other people producing Kindle books that you too are “regurgitating.”
Having said that I wish you every success in your online ventures…

KeymasterAs the owner of this site and a legal permanent resident of Costa Rica I have to be a cautious about certain topics…
For obvious reasons I can not be seen to encourage people to work in Costa Rica illegally or, to visit Costa Rica under false pretenses.
You mentioned that you wished you could retire but did not make it clear why you are “not to that point yet.”
By that do you mean you do not have enough money to retire on?
If I were in your position, my one and only goal would be to develop some kind of online business that you can run from and make money from anywhere in the world.
Within the next 3-4 weeks I will be showing our VIP Members the new online business I have invested in. I am very excited …

KeymasterHi, I also live here, I have also paid the luxury property tax.
I have also visited the Hacienda to chat about this because to begin with they told me my apartment was not liable for the luxury tax and then, when I sold it, they said I had to pay just under $6,000 in luxury property tax…
I don’t know about you but I can think of other things I would like to have done with that money. But without paying that tax, my little penthouse apartment could not be sold.
As for the luxury property tax being gringo tax, that’s nonsense, we expats always like to think we are more important than we really are and, that our ‘contribution’ to the economy is bigger than it really is…
Having said that, the Hacienda confirmed to me that less than 25% of the people who should be paying the luxury property tax have actually paid the luxury property tax….
But when they need to sell, this will have to paid before the closing….

KeymasterYour attorney has only charged you $714 per YEAR?
Isn’t that cheap?
I know quite a few attorneys here but I know NONE that would be willing to deal with this subject matter.
Why?
As you said yourself, you “have been trying to get concession for about seven years…”
It still has not been resolved and you are obviously not happy about paying your attorney – what anyone could only describe as minimal – her legal fees.

Keymaster
1. Based on your statement Scott I’m guessing you feel the associated CAJA cost for someone with a retirement income in those ranges outweigh the benefits of residency?
2. Although declaring that kind of income might be a cheaper, and much faster (2 hours!) option than a divorce for some!!!! LOL ;-)
1. That would be up to each person to decide… What I would be more concerned about is someone declaring a substantial income to a “government representative” in any country in central or Latin America…

KeymasterAccording to Randall Zamora our resident Costa Rica Tax Expert
“The official percentages applied to the reported monthly income go from 10.5% to 18.5%, so in order to reach a $1000 monthly CAJA payment the reported monthly income should be between $5405 to $9523.”
Why anybody would be voluntarily declare that kind of income is beyond me but there ya go …
If someone was to do that in other, less-secure countries your wife would be kidnapped 2 hours later …
