    Alfred,

Who is your utility company? I sell electric and natural gas in New York and many other states, so I know a fair amount about the public utilities.

There is a federal tax credit from the EPACT bill of 2005 that is good through December of 2007. New York has had tax incentives since 1998. I don’t see how the county can charge you tax on something the state is giving you an income tax credit on. If that’s the case, it should be challenged in court.

There is a US company called FAFCO (known for solar pool heaters). that now has a DIY all polymer solar heater. It works on any conventional hot water heater and contributes as much as 50% of a typical households hot water requirements through a solar heat exchanger. If your handy, it can be installed in a weekend. Because it’s made of polymer it’s not big and bulky, and coud probably be shipped or brought to CR fairly easily. The cost is about $1800. If you use this on a US home you get a substantial tax credit. You can find info on their web site. I don’t work for them.

My best suggestion for the electric would be to increase the percentage of wind energy being used. Also get some of these big foreign owned companies to invest in solar panels, if not the current ones, certainly all future companies moving or building in CR.

As far as water goes, wih two oceans, maybe De-salination plants, one on each coast.

Eli Lilly just got approval from the FDA for Prozac for dogs. This is for separation anxiety, or oher undesirable behavior. Since they lost their patent protection on the human drug, they figured they would start getting vets to push it on dog owners to make up some of the business they lost. Next thing you know we will have a bunch of drugged wacked out dogs running around trying to kill other pets or people!

Just because they are out there, doesn’t mean we can’t stop the proliferation of them. We can ban them and recall them. We can also do what C.R. did with thousands of firearms, melt them down, and make statues or art out of them.

Just because the horse is out of the barn, doesn’t mean you can’t catch it and put it back!

I grew up from the time I was a small child owning and shooting rifles and shotguns. I was a member of a gun club, hunted small game and was on the range every weekend with my father target shooting. I believe in the “right to bear arms”, however there is no reason assault weapons should be sold to the general public, the only thing they are used for is to hunt human beings. I think the ban should be reinstituted nationwide. I also think that the video games, that are nothing more than training videos on how to kill, should be banned. They even teach how to keep your heart rate low when your killing. I heard the Army is using these games for training. Should our kids have access to these?

Drugs or not, quite a few lives could have been saved, if this SFB Prez had not let the assault weapons law expire 2 years ago. The Shooter would probably not have had access to extender clips on that 9mm Glock that could fire 15+ rounds without reloading. At the very least the victims may have had time to react and run for cover before he had time to reload. Of course no background checks, no waiting time, might as well just sell guns over the counter at the 7-11.

    Thanks Scott for your reply

I have been getting newsletters since November of 2005, but they just stopped coming. The last one I received was March 17th. I haven’t changed anything, I don’t understand it.

    Scott,
I agree with David. Since some people will be moving there and not be shipping their household goods, a Directory which includes major appliances, furniture, and other household goods, that you would need right away to set up your home would be very helpful. Maybe organized by provinciales.
Also Scott, are you no longer e-mailing newsletters, or is it just because of spring break. I haven’t received one since 3/17/07. I miss getting them every 4 or 5 days.
Thanks Scott for all that you do for all of us CR lovers.

If you want something educational and fun for the boys, you might want to check out Zoologico de Aves in La Garita. It’s real easy to get to off the exit to Garita.

If your dogs are flying in cargo, make sure you travel when the temperature does not exceed 85 degrees at any location on your itinerary, snub nose dogs it’s 75 degrees. Also it can not be lower than 45 degrees at any location on the way.

They probably let you keep the dogfood, because of the huge pet food recall here. About 48 brands of dog food and almost the same amount of cat food were recalled, because they contained rat poisoning. Menu Foods is the company that packaged the food, you can find the list of foods on their web site. Many pets have gotten very sick, and a lot have died. It causes kidney failure. I don’t know if this news has reached CR yet.

    David,
Thanks so much for that information, that will really make things easier. Are there Banco Nacional branches spread through out CR, (especially Central Pacific, Southern Nicoya)?

I just got off the phone with Social Security, they said there is no direct deposit to banks in Costa Rica. CR is not on their list of participating countries. So I guess the only option is to keep your U.S. bank account and transfer money as needed or use your ATM card.
