    Maravilla,
Thank-you, Thank-you Thank-you!!! My husband and I are planning on early retirement and are coming to CR in Oct. just to look around and possibly purchase some land. We had been looking at the Carribean side which I know is still very underdeveloped in the Puerto Viejo area. I’ve had my hesitations, but my husband seemed set on it. Anyway, to get to my point after reading your post I looked up some info on San Ramon, and showed my husband some pictures. He NOW thinks we should look in that area. So my MANY thanks to you. I owe you a big hug!! I am awaiting Scott’s info on Iguanaland (earlier post) I did see there website and lots looked very nice.

    David,
The website for Martinair is http://www.martinairusa.com. They also fly non stop out of Orlando for about $30.00 more per person. My husband and I are flying out of Orlando in October and we are paying $415.00 per person RT all taxes and fees included.

Just out of curiosity I went to their website. If you look in the photo gallery, one of the pictures has a caption that reads ” Town Hall where we will get out permits from.” Shouldn’t it say where we DID get our permits from!!

    Scott,
Just wanted to clarify, when you say $32,000, do you mean that the 1999 RAV 4 is selling used for $32,000 or for a new 2006 model?
    Thanks, Debbie

Emily, my husband and I are not of retirement age either, he is 53 and I am 51, but he is also on social security disabilty. There are several different ways that you can qualify for residency status in CR. We have not moved there yet( 2-3 yr plan) but as it stands now, we would qualify for the pensionada status (600.00 a month). There is also a rentista status (1000.00 a month)from an investment or annuity thats stable for 5 years. You DON’T have to do all the 60,000 at one time. There’s alot of info out there. If you haven’t allready ordered, and are seriously considering the move, I reccomend that you order Scott’s book. It’s an excellent resource and ALOT of your questions will be answered.

    Jasman,
I like the way you think!! My husband and I allready have done that here in the states. We are both in our early 50’s and he is on social security disabilty and I went to working part-time (24hrs a week) a few years ago. We get by just fine, and when tax time comes, we may as well both be retired since we pay nothing, other that capital gains on our rental properties when sold!!

Great information! I have been looking for someone who has actually listed the cost of shipping items. My husband and I will be coming to CR for about 3 weeks in Oct., to see if we are going to relocate in a few years. We will be flying Martinaire airlines out of Orlando as well, and have a dog that will not be along on this trip, but good to know for the future. Would love to hear MORE of your story, and why you moved.

What are your plans for this property? Most large parcels are sold by Hectare. 1 Hectare equals appx 2.47 acres. There are lots of websites online with large finca’s for sale, but if I have done my math correctly you are looking to spend about 25 cents per meter! I have yet to come across anything even remotely close to the price you are looking for.

    Scott,
I would be glad to put together an article on our rental experiences. Even though the laws in Florida are a little different, the eviction process doesn’t seem to be to far off from that of CR. Give me a few weeks and I will send to you personally for your review.

There is alot of info online on the laws of renting in CR. If you are looking to offset your costs for mortgage and expenses be prepared to have tenents that may NOT pay rent, and it could be at least 3 months befor you may be able to get them evicted. I don’t own any rental properties in CR, but do have rental properties in Florida where I live and I know from those experiences it can be a nightmare, even with checking references etc.. If you have NEVER had a rental property you may want to start somewhere closer to home. Just my personal opinion especially since you are looking to offset your current costs.
    Good Luck!

    Jenny,
Thanks for responding. Scott also sent me an email that my book is on the way and gave me a contact person. I would still love to hear any input that you have since i have read alot of your comments on this site. I can say that for myself that i don’t jump into anything without doing alot of research, and know that when my husband and I come down in oct. that we are going to try and stay for at least 3weeks. We have not finalized our itinerary at this time, but looked at a few places to stay. I will continue to look at posts on the board, and when the time gets closer to get in touch with your contacts.

    Sincerely, Debbie
