    Maravilla,
Is George going to post some pictures of your house on his webshots page? I would love to see it! I have been faithfully reading Andrew’s blog and also the one by JustJen whose family just recently moved to the San Ramon area. It looks like everyone at some point in time have stayed at Angel Valley B&B. All those blogs and pictures are what keep me going till we come down in Oct.(Hopefully you will be there)! We are going to meet with both Ben and Jose when we are there. We will be looking at Ben’s Rio de Jesus property and at Jose’s Butterfly Dance. (Both were a little lower elevation that we are looking for) Good luck on selling that house. We have both of our rental properties up for sale and the market is very SLOW here as well!

Very interesting, I guess everyone is waiting impatiently to see what happens. Is Mario Zamora any relation to Randall Zamora? Maybe some inside info!

Well look at what I came across
Excerpt from the newspaper « La Nation » , May 1998
    A delightful climate
Atenas is endowed with an excellent climate due to a moderate temperature, a mixture of warm winds with cool fresh air currents, lots of sunshine and exceptional broad-leaved vegetation. This climate is characterized by an average temperature of 23.7 degrees Celcius ( 70 degrees Fahrenheit ) with close to 7 hours of sunshine per day.
The year is divided into two well defined seasons: winter, the rainy season, from May to October, and summer, the dry season, from November to April. The climate of the township of Atenas is a myth for those who refer to it as the best climate in the world, but at the same time a luxurious reality for those who enjoy it day after day.
Based on this reputation, which is both a legend and a reality according to the experts, the township of Atenas decided to erect a monument dedicated to the best climate in the world. The chosen site is located a few hills south-east of the village in the neighbourhood known under the name of Guizaros (Barrio Jesus).
The breeze is refreshing, the air is pure, and the sunsets are truly privileged moments, as a visiting team from this newspaper could confirm. The area is mostly rural with a winding road, lush pastures, rich and varied croplands and many species of birds. The area is ideal for the observation of eclipses and other celestial phenomena.

    Scott,
I can’t actually find out where National Geographic listed this. I tried doing a web search and came up with NADA! However, there are several websites with propery/ land for sale that use this quote! They must know something we don’t.

    Scott,
When we first had out tile floors installed, the man who installed them(who also did a lot of commercial contracts) told us to clean them with just some plain white vinegar in the water. That was initially to take off and dust and film left over from the grout. You probably don’t want her to use it everytime, as supposedly it is supposed to wear down the grout(especillay if too much is put in the water) I would guess it may be 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water? I don’t have an exact science but it does leave the floors sqeaky clean and alot LESS expensive than any chemical cleaners on the market! Sometimes if there is a spot that is real dirty(we have fairly light tile) and walk around barefoot alot in Florida, I will also put a little bleach in the water, but the vinegar and water mixture leaves just a little for shine to the floors. Try it! Sounds like you don’t have much to lose!

    Dan,
Check out this website http://www.housecarers.com. I did come across it awhile ago and you can put in a search for Costa Rica. There is currently a house available for 1 month in Oct. Don’t know anything about them, but may be worth a look at!

    Good luck

    John,
Fortunatly, under the new laws for reisidency nothing for the pensionado status has changed, as far as I am aware. A married couple only needs a minimum of $600.00 a month to qualify. Since my husband will have the income from social security and I will have nothing, I would be his dependant. The only other thing that comes to mind is how long would you have to be married? I’m not sure that it would make a diffenece, but you may want to look into that if you tie the knot!

Haven’t moved to CR yet, but although I’m sure there will be some food items that we will miss, my biggest concern is missing my little 4 yr old grandaughter. Since she is being raised as a Vegan, she will always tell me when she comes over for dinner, “Gramma I can’t eat dead animals!” She is 4 going on 30!LOL

David, I am also on the understanding that Medicare does not cover out of the U.S. Once you are enrolled in Medicare at 65 it will not cost anything for part A coverage (hospitilization) the premium that comes out of your Social Security check is for part B (doctors, surgeons)etc. You do not need to pay for part b coverage if you don’t want it. I’m not sure if you take it then drop it what happens in that situation, especially if you would want to enroll in part b coverage at a later date. Also, from having some background in the insurnace industry, you may want to look at your BCBS policy on their defintion of medical emergency. See it they will cover it based on the SYMTOMS and not the DIAGNOSIS. ie: You go to the hospital with severe chest pains, turns out that it is only a bad case of heartburn. Oviously, not a medical emergency, but if your plan covers based on the symptoms, rather than the diagnosis, your plan should cover it. I read a story somewhere a few months ago, (can’t remember where) but it talked about a tico who was enrolled in a private plan, then when was diagnosed for something more severe, enrolled in the CAJA because he was not able to afford the co-insurance that he would have to pay. I would definatly stay enrolled in the CAJA for the cat coverage.

Check out Guardian Angels. They advertise as relocation specialists. I don’t know much about them, but came across their website while doing my own due diligence. Here’s the link http://www.guardianangelscr.com Hope it helps!
