Here we see three on a bicycle…:D
But crime is not only in areas where ”…living in an exclusively expat area draws the professional criminals”
It are everywhere…so one must take precautions and not be ‘lax’ in your home security, and do not presume that your family will be ‘secure’ if you live in a large city, mixed neighborhood or in the countryside.
Both amateur and professional thieves can both cause trauma.
Be aware that now only a ‘Permanent resident’ of Costa Rica may purchase arms to protect their home and family.

We have been robbed multiple times and have called the police every time.
They did respond, and one time the ‘culprits’ did return everything to the police station….

Both species of monkeys will traverse over the top of your trees, if they are close together and if it is on their ‘pathway’. Nearly impossible to keep them off, if they decide they want what your growing. But, it will take a few years to produce a large tree with fruit, so you may be safe….
It is very, very difficult to go organic here, believe me! Too many insects….plus there isn’t many products available, necessary to do the job.
As for keeping ‘other critters’ out, good luck!

We recently had a fiberglass pool from Eco piscinas and are very happy with the results. Delivery and set up was included, with a back hoe required to dig the hole, but not until the pool is delivered.

I, too, garden here, and agree that for many plants a structure with plastic cover roof is necessary to protect from seasonal rains which can be very heavy… plus an area covered with the green shade cloth for plants requiring shade. Very important to also add protection from the wind.
I have an old copy of the Ed Bernhardt book, but have found it is really just ‘trial and error’ on what is successful. It is important to use short day seeds for your vegetables.
We have hundreds of fruit trees of many different varieties, which I don’t ‘work’ with, plus many varieties of flowering plants, especially those which I hope will bring more than the 11 species of hummingbirds already coming to our garden.

Applying for residency under the Inversionista status seems to be very difficult. And while trying to do it with a reforestation project is even less likely to be successful.

ACEPDX before you make a final decision to move here, you need to visit and see just how bad the sidewalks are.
You must walk while looking down.

I second Mainor Rojas. I have seen his house construction work but not a pool.

Sorry that doesn’t work, when they are off the ground or up high.
We have chickens, turkeys, young peacocks plus bugs!

Our neighbors worker recently had a small Flatscreen stolen, by a robber on foot. He hid it in a heavily treed area, then returned with a baby buggy….where he was caught.
PriceSmart will replace if unfixable with the warranty period.

We recently had a fiberglass pool installed and patio area built, but just asked around locally, and used a builder who had done some work for us before. We are very happy with the results.

Warren, this wasn’t in response to your response, and I understand what you wrote, but I was just pointing out to lbryan66 and other wannabe ‘teachers’ to realize that they can and will be deported and it’s not just the ‘fuddy duddies’ raining on their parade…

Read this article about a Deported teacher who quit her position, to change employers, who in turn failed to get her a work visa.

Note: This fully qualified teacher was hired to teach other subjects in English, not English, and I knew, personally, some of the teachers hired by CATIE in the past.

I do not ordinarily post on topics involving the USA, but it seems that this country and its inhabitants accept/want help, like in the case of the last earthquake, last years flooding and other natural disasters

We did the Rio Tropicales trip many years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
We have done many ATV excursions into the back roads as well.
Right now, my adventure is limited to going into the garden with my camera, for photos of the flower and fauna of Costa Rica.
