What you need to find out first is “does this place actually exist?”

Loraine, you may have no trouble, but remember, you are a ‘rich gringo’ and word gets around.
We ‘encountered’ problems when we opted to choose a small Tico firm to to totally renovate ..as in take the main story off…a small house, instead of the purchasing a sliver of land alongside two pieces of property we owned, to gain power to one of the pieces of land that the architects father tried to sell us, in the middle of nowhere…

Accepting some of the insects as part of nature, is much easier to do when you are not trying to grow an organic garden.
It is not the fire ant, mosquito or cockroach that does the damage…

When we wanted to cut down some trees on our coffee farm, we had to get permission, and when they saw a bird landing on a tree that was marked to be removed, we were refused permission…
Not only old growth needs permission.
When on contract, they will tell you what hours they will/want to work.

loraine, be mindful that you may require permission to take down these trees.

There are ‘cutters’ and ‘gardeners’, and believe me, this difference will show…
If you are supplying the ‘tools’ and the gas, about $2 per hour is right, but not if they supply their own tools and gas

At this time of the year there is much more cutting to be done than in the dry season.

The DIMEX card will be required as of July 1st.
But whether it actually makes a difference, who knows….

Costaricabill has done a great job detailing how to find out the possible costs involved.
My suggestion is that if you are on a strict and limited budget, is to purchase an existing house.
Then you can make changes you want… or not.

You did say you are living at the beach, in a previous posting, correct? I would be very hesitant putting this breed in a hot and humid climate, unless you are willing to keep it in a climate controlled area or allow it to share a swimming pool. And if there are children around only on the odd occasion, it could be a concern.

We had to replace ours a few months ago, and it took nearly a month due to Samana Santa and Murphy’s Law.
Our plates were ‘held’ at the post office for two weeks! They hadn’t noticed the the two numbers on the registration and my husbands passport didn’t match, after accepting them, so just kept them there…
He retrieved them, got the passport number on the truck registration changed into his cedula number and took them to Registro in Liberia. Three days later he picked them up
My husband who by now had learned the correct method, took the plates of another vehicle into Registro, and again they were replaced within the 3 days.

Take plates/registration/passport/cedula juridica (if in corp) to the Registro or PO.

I would suggest going the Registro route, who will ‘courier them’ free, for the quickest replacement. where they will hold them for you, I’m sure, until you return, while the PO may return them 🙄

Suggest you contact the Jaco and surrounding area hotels. Some must have a pastry chef. Los Suenos resort?
Many ladies in the towns often provide wedding cakes.

Unless you wish to take the exam in Spanish, you must go to La Uruca for your initial license with your valid passport, showing you are still within your 90 day visa..
