MemberThanks I was curious as I read somewhere but can not remember that the parents would get some form of residency. Considering the child would be “Costa Rican” why deny he/she the right to life in CR? Don’t worry SB I was just curious not planning on knocking the old broad up and exploiting your country..lol.

MemberIf you’re child is born in Costa Rica while you are on a tourist stay, are the parents able to then obtain residency if they would like to stay and raise there child there?

MemberI looked into this with a guy who is based out of Hawaii and travels to Bali to locate homes, disassemble and ship. This is for those who want an authentic Balinese home, not those looking for an affordable quick and easy build. I think a prefab suits this function best and this company makes a pretty good looking house. This is highly cost effective and comes with the architect plans etc..This is not for everyone.

MemberCabo “looks” great but as you know having just been there that it so far is just a virtual development. As a golfer I hope they get it done and allow non owners to play.

MemberI was a little wary myself after going to CR this last December with my daughter and girlfriend. We plan on building in a year or two and have been visiting CR for the last 5 years spending up to 6 weeks at a time. In all that I time I never had one problem and felt safe but always keep my eyes open, just like at home. My concern also came from all the news I read and other forums where these break in crimes are reported. We spent the month of December there with no problems and felt just as safe as previous trips. We left our surfboards and my golf clubs etc..in our apartment on the beach with other personal belongings when we took a few side trips…no problem. Also left the car parked in front of the hotel. I am well aware that of course I could become a victim of a crime, same thing could happen to me in Brooklyn where we currentlt live. When I have to park my car near the waterfront I lock up and run towards my apartment…I never feel this way in Playa Hermosa/Jaco.

MemberI think you get a better price at dollar and there customer service has been great. Last time there(December) the rep. marked that I was going to pay for collision, but I had told him I was denying it and using the coverage of my card. I discovered this when returning the car, just a quick word with the manager and he removed the charge and gave me an additional 15% reduction.
There is only one government insurance company in Costa Rica, they do not offer collision. However when you pay the extra charge when renting your car they are saying they will cover the damages/loss cost in the event of theft, you back into a pole, roll the car into a ditch etc..Lately I have been just taking the mandatory insurance and charging with a card that covers me in the event I do something not covered by the INS policy. The last 5 times I have had no problems, well once in Alujela they did the puncture tire thing but I was aware of what was happening and kept going until I found a safe spot to pull over. We are usually in CR for at least 3 weeks so it saves a lot of cash declining collision. When we were doing a lot of long distance treks on one trip I paid up for everything, as we were traveling over rivers, beach and traversed the infamous Congo trail on a 6 week jaunt. If money is not an issue pay up and enjoy 100% worry free. If you don’t have the “full coverage” they will charge your card for any uncovered damages and you then must send the appropriate paperwork to the card issuer to be reimbursed, check with them for a list of what you will need. Remember also if involved in an accident do not move your car until the police get there, even if you are blocking traffic. Also last time I was at dollar there was a guy there with a smashed windshield, some rocks fell from a mountain or something. Really he was very lucky not to have been hurt. I over heard the dollar manager speaking with him, and although he was going to have to ante up, they were working with him on the cost. They got an estimate fairly quickly to replace the windshield and were offering some free rental days to soften the blow…*Lotus

MemberJust for the sake of chiming in, my guess is CRHB is saying $38 bucks a sqft for shabby not up to “north American” specs construction. Not the type of construction you did David.
