My wife and I have looked almost all over the world for that perfect retirement place. We’re trying to plan a visit to Costa Rica, but would like to find a great tour group to see possible areas. Does anyone know of a good, reputable, reasonably priced group?
If you are looking for somewhere “perfect”, Costa Rica is not for you.
one of my other neighbors lost her Bichon this way — took less than 7 minutes for the dog to die a horrible death. thankfully, my dog doesn’t have much interest in them, but just to be on the safe side, i go out with him at night to make sure there aren’t any bufos lurking. as the rainy season approaches they will be out in full force. nasty buggers they are. and BIG, too. make sure your drains are covered — they love to hide in there and i know someone who had one stuck in a drain pipe near the house and the thing died and rotted. ugh and yes, they are the biggest threat to our pets. i paid about $8.00 for a vial of atropine, so it’s worth the money to have it on hand with a syringe that can be filled quickly, or have it pre-filled if you are the type who can’t function under stress!!! and this WILL be stressful!
What is the correct dose of Atropine?

    Then don’t watch it.

It must depend on the game you choose. I am watching Alabama-South Carolina and have not had any interruptions.

No, just go to the website and scroll down to the game you want.

    Hmmm . . .

Well, I’ve just searched Amazon, Barnes and Noble, eBay and Borders. None of them has this afternoon’s Clemson-North Carolina game.

Could you explain “hit and miss service”. Is it beamed to a satellite or cell tower? Is it better than nothing as that is what I have? I am on the Pacific coast in Esterillos. More specific info would really help.
It is “better than nothing”, but just barely. Sometimes it is slower than dial-up. The cost is less than 8,000 colones per month.

I actually did find the lemon trees at the nursery David mentioned in La Garita.

Thanks Costaricafinca. I found the discussion on Lemons from November 2009. Now I will have to find the trees.
I am trying to perfect my technique for preparing authentic quality pizza at home here in CR. I am almost there in terms of the right taste and feel except I can´t seem to find one essential ingredient here in CR (at least so far). The simple stone ground corn meal that lubricates the pizza peel so the dough will slide smoothly to the cooking stone is nowhere to be found. I tried buying some whole corn kernels from Hipermas and Sarreto and blasted them in the blender for a long time. What can out was like coarse gravel that you would find in a bad parking lot. The texture on the bottom of the pizza was not so much a problem as the threat to my fillings and dental work. Does anyone know where to get regular corn meal here? The corn masa is too fine. I am a little embarassed to order corn meal from the U.S. through my Aerocasillas account.
The only place I have found it is at the Auto Mercado in the Multi-Plaza. Sometimes you can find Polenta which is basically the same thing.
it’s about importing pets to CR. having a broker bring the dog through customs. paying the CR consulate for stamps that were never needed before. the CDC is in charge of pets coming FROM costa rica into the US. they apparently don’t insist on any kind of paperwork except prooof of rabies, but you must check with the state you are flying into to see what their requirements are. you have always needed a broker if you were shipping animals through cargo on a different flight than yours. plus the vet here, blah blah blha. i guess we will just have to wait and see how it all settles because if this is the case, it is going to be a great big fat hassle to travel with pets, whether they are in the cabin or not. and i don’t see what the heck the Embassy has to do with any of it.
Well I hadn’t planned on getting into a pissing contest with all the full time geniuses on this forum who seem to be experts on every topic. But if Costa Rica passed a new law regarding travel to Costa Rica, don’t you think the Costa Rican Embassy would know about it?

I am planning on returning to Costa Rica with my 2 dogs in the next month. When I saw this post I wasn’t sure how it was going to effect my trip. I called the Costa Rican consulate and spoke to a lady who told me it was not true and the only information I should believe is what is on their website. http://www.costarica-embassy.org. For what it’s worth.
If one is thinking of retireing to Costa Rica possibly. How should one visit on a guided tour to show a person what they need to know? Or should they rent a car and travel. My husband and I sure could use some advice here. we also want to have fun on daytrips, not listening to seminars all day.Of course we don’t have a clue where to go and want to be safe also. Some tours cost an arm and leg too. Any advice is Greatly Appreciated!
You should check out George Lundquist’s tour. It is well worth the $$$. You won’t be listening to seminars all day, but you will get a wealth of information.
i heard on another board that these dogs are not even allowed into costa rica. i hope you have checked with the appropriate agency to see whether or not this is true. someone suggested on the other board that the vet give a different name to the breed, but it was decided that the custom’s agent was smarter than that.
What is the appropriate agency in Costa Rica?
