ParticipantIf you are intending to send your children to university in the US, they will be required to attend an accredited school and the public ones will not fit the bill.

A few weeks ago, the newspaper, La Nación, posted that in nine high schools not one student received a passing grade.

ParticipantWhile the guaranteed monetary requirement for Pensionado, is $1000 per month, there is no way that this would be enough for a family of 6 to live on. Unless you have an ongoing, additional income please do not make any hasty decisions.

ParticipantSeven years ago, one of Bill Clintons ‘team’ purchased our coffee farm here. Very nice people but we were surprised when they actually stayed that long, living in a very rural community, but they have recently returned to the USA leaving a very expensive home they built on the property, empty, in their rush to leave…

ParticipantNo, one is required to be a resident.
Why would you even consider ‘locking’ into CAJA rates, when you have not made any definite intentions to move here?
Have you read the requirements for living here, Residencyincostarica?
According to a friend who posted elsewhere, as of last month, those who came here as a recent Rentista and who paid $230 based on their $2500 that is transferred into their account, and Pensionados who receive a minimum of $1000 were paying $120, both 12% of their ‘income’. I do not know whether this rate has been increased.
Those of us who moved years ago have a much better rate, and I have no problem with the increase, but for those who will be required to pay, so much more when they, like many of ‘us’ may tend use CAJA for only emergencies and pay ‘out of pocket’ for private care.
