Hey Maravilla, what do you know about service dog status? And having them on the plane with you?
A friend of mine got her dog service status so she could bring her wherever she went, and said that she could site emotional issues as the condition.
She also said that when you have the paperwork that proves your dog has been issued the service dog status, that you are not legally required to disclose your “need/challenge”.
If you don’t mind, I’d be interested in hearing what you know.
I just assumed that if a person with a service dog, such as a blind person, is travelling by plane, that there dog would be put in baggage as well, and given assistance on and off a plane.

While we’re on the subject of residency….
Is there a short and quick answer to what is needed to qualify as invester/business residency?
If one were to purchase property and build out as a guest house, is there a way to use the money spent to qualify for residency this way?
I only mention “short and quick” because I don’t expect to get all of the info here, I expext an attorney will be my source for that.
    Thanks for any info.
    Mark.

I’m here in the Florida Keys, so I use an MCI card that I buy at a “Circle K”, our equivalent of a 7/11.
You can purchase them for various amounts, and the per minute rate is very cheap.

in reply to: Any opinions on older Toyota Land Cruisers? #187715

Thank you for all of your replies, I will continue to look into the pros and cons when I’m down in Manuel Antonio next month.
I hadn’t realized that I forgot to mention my need for a vehicle to escape extra large pigs! This ofcourse in a must with any vehicle for me, and I will surely be adding a check mark on the “pros’ side of my list due to your story rebargon.

OK, lard may or may not kill you, however, I would put big money on a bet that the vast majority of people would forgo lard as well as most other mammal meats if they saw the process from live animal to their plate.
Not saying that everybody should be vegetarian.
I’m just saying that there is more to concider then if it is good or bad for US.
BTW, for those of us here in Southern Florida, or anywhere else they have that wonderful Cuban bread that crisps up so nice in the sandwhich press…the bread is full of lard. I just like to put that out there, especially when I see a vegetarian order a veggie burger and veggies on Cuban bread, it’s really good, but it is full of PIG FAT.

So, with all that said, is there anybody out there that knows of a way, or is interested, to get a private “noahs ark” going. Maybe if a few of us coordinated, we could get some tree huggin’, animal crazy private plane person to give us a package deal, and move some of our critters down there without subjecting them to all of the stress. I’m not one of these over sensitive anthropomorphising people when it comes to animals, but each time I fly, I imagine having my dogs down underneath in the hold, and it is a very upsetting feeling. I am very serious about trying to make this happen.
    Anybody else?

in reply to: Moving pet cats to Costa Rica #185866

As far as the actual moving of our pets, I am very interested in fnding info or gathering a group of some kind to get our fury children down there without putting them in a cargo hold of a plane. If anybody out there wants to try to put something together, or knows of any possibilties, we’re game.
We’re in Key West, and have two large dogs, who would not do well at all being put into kennels under a plane. When are we going? Still working on that.
By the way, they get along with cats just fine.

in reply to: passport update #184903

    USE EXPIDITED SERVICE!
I went to my post office with my photos, filled out the form, purchased a postal money order, sent it priority with a pre-paid priority return envelope. I did this less then two weeks ago, and they have already sent me my new passport. This was all done from my little post office here in Key West, where we’re pretty sure the mule that we see on the overseas highway is carrying the mail back to the mainland.
Spend the extra money, and use the expidited service!

in reply to: Waiting time to get US passport #184390

Does anybody know what Costa Rica customs requires?
I’ve been so many times, but not with a passport that has less then 6 months left on it.
Is there a way to find out what the minimum length of time you must have remaining is?
I’m waiting to close on our property, should be in 1-3 months. My passport expires end of October, if I send in my passport along with an aplication, I’m screwed until I get it back.I’ve seen the idea of going to a regional office, but none are close enough.
    Anyone know the CR requirements?

in reply to: Tao Watts please elaborate on your solution. #183590

It is important to ask these questions.
I for one, plan on hearing that Tao is fully able to stand up and show that she is fighting the good fight, I also think that it is very useful to pose the questions that Diego has. If nothing else, it gets the discussion going. We all know that this could lead to all sorts of opinions on what is best to do , or not to do, in the Osa. Some of what Diego proposes as a solution seems like a very good idea.
I will surely keep an eye on this one…..

in reply to: Firearms in Costa Rica #182803

If posting that you are armed will cause the ” would be thugs” to pass your home and go on to another, I presume because these thugs are not armed themselves, then it seems logical that if we all arm ourselves and make it known, then the thugs will follow suit and arm theirseves.
Hasn’t the escalation of arms proven this over and over again?
Ofcourse the problem needs to be dealt with, and accountability of law enforcement needs to be stepped up.
I don’t doubt that your arming yourself, and at one time defending yourself with a gun, was succesful. However, I ,for one, would hate to see everybody follow this trend, as it is obvious how it will turn out.

in reply to: Can anyone suggest a good fruit-tree nursery? #181624

in reply to: Seeking Sage Advice from Those Who Know….. #181224

Thanks Scott, I’ll be there for the closing, so i’m not looking at doing this long distance. I’ve got a good bank connection who suggests that I set up a minimal, say $500, cd to get the ball rolling. Does anybody know if there is a specific order which these things are best accomplished? As in bank account first, and then phone, utilities etc? Thanks again in advance.

Hello all, I just spent the last day researching dry dog foods, and came up with some really suprising info.
    Check out this site http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com
They don’t seem to have an agenda other then reporting their findings so that we can take better care of our dogs.
ESPECIALLY lookat Science diet. out of 1-6 stars, they give Science Diet only 1, as well as some other popular brands, going so far to say that it gets 1, only because there is nothing lower on the chart.
Do our furry children a favor and check out the site.
Ofcourse finding the highly rated stuff in Costa Rica is another story, sorry…….
