two of the uglies are crime (although stat wise, it’s less than some cities in the US, although 5 houses where i live were robbed last year including mine) and racism. No, the ticos don’t just love you because you are waving dollars; a lot of them flat out dislike gringos; even i don’t like some of them. also the bureaucrazy is enough to drive some people away. and, if there is a language barrier be prepared for a lot of problems, i don’t care what anyone says. you cannot understand this culture, which is pretty unique, if you cannot communicate. Finca might have a whole other list of uglies, but those are mine. surely you didn’t think you were moving to the Garden of Eden where all is perfect, did you?
No way, I live where 95% of the population are Mormons and the state is governed by very very conservative WHITE men and a few women! If they have the money to run for office.
It has a huge problem with Meth. The schools are over crowded and they have now cut funding. I could go on and on. Nothing is perfect! What do you enjoy about living in Costa Rica and why did you move there?
Thanks,
DThomas
I guess you feel that I am warning others to stay away, but that is not the case.
This isn’t about renting to find the best area before buying.
I am trying to advise folk to at least visit for a while. Even more so, when there are children involved. As adults we can adapt much easier, especially if we come with a ‘significant other’ who we can complain to time and time again, but young family members have left their major support system at home, with their peers.
They will more than likely attend school and have to adjust to both new kids and a new language.
This is a great place to live, but it isn’t ‘Shangri-La’.
People can read everything there is about Costa Rica…and there will still be surprises, good, bad….and there definitely is an ugly.
What did you mean by ugly? That doesn’t sound good for those of us who are considering moving to Costa Rica. I would appreciate you letting us know.
Thanks,

VMC, Are you visiting Costa Rica for the first time or are you moving there for good? Just wondering how you accomplished getting all the regulations taken care of in Costa Rica and the USA so quickly.
Thanks,

Scott,
I think the We Love Costa Rica Forum needs to just focus on questions concerning Costa Rica. Stop writing about the USA and its political problems. If you live in Costa Rica and are thinking about moving there, you should leave your old country behind and start fresh with your new country. Isn’t that why you want residency in Costa Rica? You have to be willing to change in every way to live in Costa Rica or any country you move too. If you are still focusing on the USA and its issues, then why move to Costa Rica, just stay in the USA and deal with it. I hope things will improve on the forum and all the members will be polite to each other!
Thanks

Member Jdocop, as I stated before you seem to be a member that gives good insight to questions concerning Costa Rica. You have been very helpful. I will not recommend this website as long as there are members like VMC and Kimball and some others that seem to use filthy language and make terrible comments towards members that are just trying to express their views. These members seem to hide behind their computers to bully. My questions to these members why did you move to Costa Rica or are thinking about moving there? Did you watch Night line last night? Northern Idaho is the perfect place for you. Check it out!
Don’t let them get to you Jdocop. I appreciate your honesty and information concerning Costa Rica! Forget the other trash they keep writing about.
Thanks,
DRT

Scott,
I really enjoy reading your site. I think most of the members have been very informative. Today, member VMC went way over the line. He used filthy language, and insulting accusations to another member. I enjoyed recommending this website to others. I will not recommend this website to other people who are interested in investing in Costa Rica with members like VMC. VMC is not the kind of member you want writing on your website! I bet some of the members would agree!
I am sorry this went on!

Thanks JDOCOP,
You are the only expat that makes any sense.
What are the rest of you going to do about it? Write to your Congressman? That really works! You want to blame the present government, but this problem has been going on since you were were born. All of you knew this and that is why you moved to Costa Rica or are planning on moving there. Everyone who lives in the USA is in the same boat or worst. You should all feel blessed that you are able to live in Costa Rica or have the finances to be able to move there. Make the best of it!

Dan,
Sorry you are so frustrated with the U.S.A and as you call the idiots that are ruining the country. I totally believe its people like you that need to find their happiness somewhere else. Good luck where ever you end up!

Thank you so much for your last paragraph! I agree he and his family need to pitch in and try to help the U.S. not just whine and run away. He might get to Costa Rica and realize the U.S.A. wasn’t so bad after all. His whole family needs to go visit Costa Rica for awhile before they go complaining about the U.S.A. Both countries have a lot of good and not so great things to offer families!
Thanks,
Denise

I was wondering if you have checked into getting your residency, school costs, housing costs, moving costs, medical care and more. Whatever it takes to move to Costa Rica for your family. This is what I was referring too, when I wrote requirements.
