MemberThere’s already talk of restricting travel if they think you are running away from your financial obligations — will they or can they enforce that, I don’t know, but don’t think it CAN’T happen. As for the restriction of getting a passport because you owe child support, whatever does that have to do with the feminist movement? You’re sounding a little bit like that other guy Dogo who blamed the fall of civilization on bra-burners. Paying child support has nothing whatsoever to do with the feminist movement. It’s about holding sperm donors accountable for the children they produce, which is the absolute right thing to do.

MemberMuslims building a bridge to the Western world??? Surely you jest. They think we are stupid, decadent, barbaric, selfish infidels who must be killed so that a Muslim world can ensue. Ain’t no way they are going to bridge the gap or build a bridge, but maybe they’ll blow one up. They are not interested in peace because we are, in their eyes, the antithesis to everything that Mohammed preaches against. And how can you prove we haven’t gotten one drop of oil out of Iraq? Because our gov’t said so? If you think this war is not about oil, you haven’t done your research. The foremost Middle East expert says it is and lists all the reasons in his book “Sleeping With the Devil – How the US Sold Its Soul for Saudi Crude.”

MemberWell, the gov’t is already restricting overseas travel — if you owe money for child support, you ain’t gonna get a passport. Period. Now what would you call that? And when will you not be able to get a passport because you are delinquent on your mortgage, credit card bills, Federal taxes, etc? All of those restrictions are in the pipeline. I heard one report a few months ago that talked about linking your passport records to your credit report. Et voila — you ain’t going anywhere!!!

MemberThe terms notarized, certified, authenticated, and apostilled are all variations of the same theme. Yes, someone signs the “certified” copy of your document, then the rest of the procedure kicks in. People argue whether documents for Costa Rica are “authenticated” or “apostilled” — it’s the same damn thing, just a different term and most people do not refer to “apostilled” documents when it comes to Costa Rica because only countries who are a signatory to the Hague Convention require “apostilled” documents so that is why when you send your documents to the Secretary of State you MUST DESIGNATE WHICH COUNTRY THEY ARE FOR.

MemberI was told that the clock starts ticking when your residency application is approved, not before, not when you prints are taken, not when you submit your application. Mine was approved in May but my appointment at immigration to pick up my cedula is not until January 24, but the clock is ticking on my 4 months to log in Costa Rica. Marilyn, I hope you are working with someone to help you get residency because it seems that you are really flying blind here.

MemberHoly Cow, you guys — you really made me want to get the hell out of here (the US) sooner than next week. I, too, am completely disgusted with our country, the people who run it such as Hogzilla Hastert and the Mark Foley Pervert, an illegal war that will go on for the next 8 years, not to mention a prez who used to stick firecrackers up the behinds of frogs and is a pathological liar on top of everything else. Don’t even get me started on those other sociopaths — Rummy and Cheney. This is one scary place to live with all the fear mongering, terror threats, loss of civil rights, loss of personal freedom, the list just goes on and on and on and it was only after spending a good amount of time in Costa Rica away from the constant disinformation, black propaganda, and the fear mongering did I realize how brainwashed we all are. This is no way to live. No wonder we have 50 million-plus people on psychiatric drugs, some of whom go completely whacko and shoot up schools and workplaces, and the answer to the problem is just numb more people out so they don’t care that they’re essentially living in a war zone. Republican, Democrat, what’s the difference — an honest politican is an oxymoron. Every day I fear I won’t get out of this asylum without walls before they close the damn borders for some trumped up reason.

MemberThe procedure for me went like this: I obtained a “certified” copy of my birth certificate from Vital Stats. It was signed and “certified” that it was a true copy of the actual certificate on file. I then sent it to the Secretary of State’s office and they “authenticated” it or added an “apostille”. At the Sec of State’s office they have a list of every notary in the state so they can “authenticate” that the person who “certified” it was qualified to do so. Likewise, when you send documents to the Costa Rica Consulate in the area where you live, they too have a book of names of notaries, etc. and they look that name up and then “authenticate” that the other “authentication” was really authentic. Although Costa Rica is not a signatory to the Hague Convention of 1966 (or it is 64?), some of the documents I did obtain had the an Apostille on it as required by the Hague Convention. Costa Rica does accept such documents.

MemberI got one of those threatening letters. It sounded as if it had been written by Tony Soprano’s lawyers. The only thing they didn’t threaten me with was breaking my kneecaps. I sent their letter to my daughter who is a high-powered lawyer so she suggested that I tell them if they ever threatened me again we would countersue for intentional infliction of emotional harm, intimidation, libel, and a long laundry list of other offenses. Needless to say, I never heard another word from them. Some of these companies can be quite the bullies if they think you are just some poor bloke who doesn’t know the ropes. They threatened the wrong gal, that’s for sure.

MemberAll I know is that when my application made it through immigration they demanded another police letter because there wasn’t enough time left on the other one. I’ve had others tell me if was three months, too. And Javier said it was three months and he did my pensionado application, so I guess he would know.

MemberFlamingos are no problem. The bigger the beter! Yes, I have a house in Colorado — up in the mountains outside Denver. It’s off the market now until next year. Would love to do a project for you. Just let me know when and where. Watch the Home Makeover show and you will see my handiwork.

MemberI can’t wait to see the showroom. If they are doing sinks, I may have them do one for the bathroom I have to finish. My husband called them yesterday — Olga wasn’t there, but he spoke to someone else and told that person that I was coming and gave them my name so they’re on the look-out for me! Thank you so much for that recommendation. I’m hoping my contractor will go with me to pick out the travertine (or limestone).
Yes, Lotus, we DO plan on doing some mosaic tile work when we are in Costa Rica. That is why our house is going to have two major pieces of mosaic work. We also fabricated the largest mosaic mural in North America a few months ago. Looks like we’ll be doing a lot of work for the Makeover program because Ty loves what we do. Like you, I’m addicted to the HG-TV shows, always looking for ideas of how to fluff these houses or sell them! You can go to http://www.becomingtile.com and see the 4500 sq ft mural we did last winter.

Hello, everyone. My name is Javier Zavaleta from Residency in Costa Rica. This is my first posting in this web site in over 2 years. I am taking this opportunity to clarify a couple of items contained in ItsButchs posting of September 8, 2006. Please see below my signature line. Before addressing Butch’s message I have a comment to make regarding fingerprints. Why is anyone worrying about a requirement that, as of today, simply does not exist? The requirement is a police report from the community where the applicant has resided for the last six months. If anyone has written evidence to the contrary, please share it with all, as I would love to see it. Will the FBI be required at some point? Probably. When will that be? Who knows& Not as of today. A reminder that police letters are valid for only ninety (90) days.
And a thank you to both Maravilla and Wendy for your kind words.

MemberDidn’t Javier say it was 3 months? It was originally 6 months, but they changed it — I know, I had to get new police reports because there was only 40 days left on the one that was originally good for 6 months when all our paperwork got submitted to immigration. There is another thread on this topic somwhere on this forum where Javier set forth the guidelines on the police report AND the FBI report, which at this time, is not needed.
maravilla
MemberFor the stateside police report, they changed it from 6 to 3 months. First you have to get it in the States, then it has to be notarized, then authenticated by the Secretary of State, then it has to go to the CR consultate for another authentication. The lines aren’t long at the Fuerza in San Jose — why on earth would you go to Puntarenas? That makes no sense at all. It took us less than 15 minutes to get in and out of the police station in Costa Rica. And that included the interview. Butch, Javier clarified some of your misunderstandings about all of this in that other thread you started about residency. Please read his response about the FBI report.

MemberYou’ve never made any valid points, Dogo. You might want to seek some psychological help for your hatred of women. You ramble and make no sense at all, so I’m not responding to anymore of your disjointed accusations and drivel.
