ParticipantUnless your kids are bilingual, the public school system won’t be a good idea. Even then, you will probably find them ‘lacking’.
Pick the schools first, then search the area for homes.
Don’t sign or send a deposit to hold any property…check it out in person first.
You shouldn’t need a lawyer but that may change if you do decide to sign a lease.
You may wish to search for information on living legally in Costa Rica, if you haven’t already done so, otherwise you will all have to leave, every 90 days. ARCRcostaricafinca
ParticipantDo you think both of them used steroids…?
Found safe:
“Well, that’s a relief. I (Don Winner)just spoke to Allan Duckworth. He and Stacie are both alive and well. He was chilled to hear about the later exploits of Holbert and Reese. I had the story right, about the bar in Puerto Viejo and the general description of the story about how things went down. The Duckworth’s actually went with Holbert and Reese to the Jaco area of Costa Rica where they lived for two months. In fact the Duckworths decided they needed to get away from Holbert and Reese because, according to Duckworth, Holbert was apparently trying to change his appearance to make himself look more like Allan. Their radars were working, they got worried and suspicious, and they got the hell away from those two. That probably saved their lives. In any case, they are fine (Thank God.)”Copyright 2010 by Don Winner for Panama-Guide.com.

ParticipantMost of our forum members who live in a hut in the mountains will tell you it gets cold up there!
Not too many of them have internet access there, either…
You would need to come and search out your ‘Shangri la' as it probably here, somewhere , but I think the dream would ‘get old’ fast.
Plus you would still need to apply for residency the same as everyone living here, so you may want to read the info, The Real Costa Ricacostaricafinca
ParticipantPlease, wait and DO not apply for Pensionado status until you have made a few trips here. Also check on the availability of the medications required.
While being denied Pensionado status due to pre-existing health conditions is highly unlikely, it may make health insurance with INS a problem, since they do not cover most pre-existing conditions. CAJA has no such rules.
My father suffered with Parkinson’s for many years, so am familiar with his condition.
I would advise using the lawyers associated with ARCRcostaricafinca
ParticipantI have been following up on that website.
I was surprised to read that they lived near the Cariari Golf Course about 2007, selling cars…
Also the article mentions this:
”Moved To Puerto Viejo: In mid-2007 they left the San Jose area and moved to Puerto Viejo, In Puerto Viejo they hooked up with a relatively young couple who owned a bar. Before too long “Big Bill” and Michelle were running the bar that was owned by the other couple. In late 2007 “Big Bill” and Michelle had convinced this couple to sell their bar and supposedly all four of them were going to move to Bocas del Toro in Panama, together. Supposedly the couple sold their bar for $75,000 dollars, and Bill and Michelle had accumulated $60,000 from the used car business. And then – all four of them left the area for good. The bar was located in Punta Cocles, just outside of Puerto Viejo in Costa Rica. The couple who owned the bar, who supposedly sold it for $75,000 dollars and who supposedly moved to Bocas del Toro with “Big Bill” and “Michelle” were in their mid to late 30’s. The bar was supposedly located “at the end of Punta Cocles.”
Scary….We had looked to moving to Bocas del Toro years ago, but felt it, definitely, ‘wasn’t for us’.
An added link, with ‘comments’ from a former neighbor ( who posted on another forum, years agao)in Punta Uva, New York Daily news article

Participant2BNCR , I wasn’t ‘baiting you’ but realized you were very sure of your objections, so would expect you to comment on my response and that was fine.
And my no means, do I believe that all health care here is equal. I see what our workers family, to ‘name one’, and how inept surgeries on two family members has called for repeat surgeries to fix the original one, which CAJA will not do.
The surgeon I mentioned has had further training in the USA and in Europe and is the Chief Urologist, of a CAJA hospital in town and performs surgery at La Catolica.
I always suggest to anyone contemplating moving here and if they mention that they intend to use only CAJA, that they consider using private facilities for a serious complaint and use the CAJA for minor problems. Or when time is not an issue.
They must be sure to allow for the financial aspect if what they need is either not available or they must wait a year or more for treatment. For some cancers which require ongoing treatment CAJA may be adaquate but this depends on what area you are living in and which type of cancer you have.
Again, CAJA in an emergency situation can be excellent, and I have had to make use of it, so I was glad it was available to me.costaricafinca
ParticipantNo, the problem wasn’t with the doctors, but a reaction by my husband.
And I knew you would respond ….:roll:costaricafinca
ParticipantMy husband had surgery at the Hospital Clínica La Catolica at the end of March and we were very happy with both the surgeon and the care he received. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the surgeon stayed many hours in his room to make sure everything was well.
I don’t he could have had better care, anywhere.costaricafinca
ParticipantI don’t agree with it either, but since I’m not American, I don’t think it is my place to comment other than say, ‘…if you don’t want to read the subject matter, don’t’.
BYW, I have told Scott on a couple of different occasions that I don’t necessarily agree with him, on everything he writes…:roll:costaricafinca

’by your own admission (multiple times).
so 1 more time makes it OK.'
If you are referring to the time the ’goods were returned' I was happy, but that doesn’t make it ‘right’.Once they poisoned 3 of our dogs, and 2 of them died and I will never forgive them for that.
We are very located on a farm, where we happily live with a Tico family, and mix very rarely with other ‘gringos’ in our area, preferring our neighbors. -
