Keymaster
Read an article where? Is it from a reputable source of information? Did the reader perhaps misunderstand what he or she read? Is there any actual confirmation from an expat who tried to open an account and was denied with this new agreement cited as the reason? Or is this another (gasp!) wild rumor?
Yeah, I know. Boring old facts. But sometimes reading boring old facts is a good approach before deciding whether you need to panic.
1. Once again your comments clearly demonstrate that you do NOT live here sweikert925 and know little about the real, practical world of living abroad.
Quoting IRS “facts” and a NYT article does NOT tell you how extremely difficult the U.S. has made it for American citizens living abroad – you know, actually on the ground in the country – to do their banking…
2. It’s safe to assume that the email writer didn’t feel it was necessary to provide us with his source of information but I can assure you that opening new bank accounts is now a very challenging experience.

KeymasterIt is now fact…. Intel will close their chip manufacturing operations in Costa Rica and move them to Vietnam…
1. Intel transforma operaciones: manufactura va para Asia
2. Intel cerraría manufactura de chips, dejaría abierto centro de servicios
Engineering, design and services operations will remain but more than half of all Intel employees in Costa Rica (1,500) are to be fired.
That’s the bad news…
The good news?
It could have been worse….

KeymasterYou stated that you “have no personal experience with any of these” and I have so I edited your comment because I do have “personal experience” with John McGee who handles all our family’s insurance needs and the insurance requirements of many of our VIP Members.
One of the reasons this site has been successful is because many people trust my judgement – not yours – because they know I do my homework and most of the time, I speak from significant “personal experience.”
I appreciate that you have never lived actually lived in Costa Rica, but when you do eventually have some experience living here and perhaps have your own website, you can recommend whomever you wish.
In the meantime, unknown and unproven insurance companies/agents and their promotors will not featured on my website.
Hope that clarifies it for you ….

KeymasterShe is welcome to recommend whomever on her site, that firm is not featured on my website because I know nothing about them.
I do have a great deal of personal experience with our Recommended Health Insurance broker, his name is John MGee and you can see his articles here…

KeymasterAs any professional singer will confirm, the voice can change dramatically as the person ages…
At age 71 any singer’s voice is nowhere near as good as it used to be.
This is a terrific article about Whitney Houston who was “successful” but I would certainly not consider a professional singer, the article gives us some great clues about the development of the voice.
“It is important to note that someone “sounding good” to our ears is a very relative phenomenon. It’s a matter of opinion. It is very possible for someone to sound great, while singing in a way that is damaging to their voice. The human voice is very resilient, and youth often allows for us to push the limits. Early in Whitney’s career, her immense talent was apparent (Hence her record deal and worldwide fame). What was equally apparent, was her lack of formal training. Many will say, “She sounded magnificent…How can you say she had no training?”. Indeed, Ms. Houston did sound magnificent. But solid and effective vocal training is just as much about preserving your voice, as it is about enhancing the sound of it. Whitney Houston, by her own admission, had never had formal voice lessons.”

I never liked the sound of the Beatles or Paul McCartney’s voice but, with all the electronics they have today, I’m sure they’ll make him sound as good as he can be …

KeymasterARESEP [ http://www.aresep.go.cr/ ] regulates the prices for most public services but their website is less than useless.
You can see the CNFL ‘tarifas residenciales’ at [ https://cnfl.go.cr/index.php/tarifa-residencial ]. As has been mentioned, these rates depend on the electricity provider.
Precios electricidad por empresa (enero-marzo 2014) at:
Precio combustibles (13 febrero 2014) at: [ http://www.aresep.go.cr/images/documentos/HIDROCARBUROS/1.Tarifas/Precio_de_los_combustibles_ET_002_2014_Impuesto_Unico_febrero_2014.xls ]
Propane prices at [ http://www.aresep.go.cr/index.php/inicio/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=532&catid=72&Itemid=392 ]
A good term to search for would be: “tariffs de electricidad residencial en costa rica”
