    Diego:
You are right in a sense, but people are fed up. I live in Florida and between property taxes and home insurance raising every year %25 this is not the same florida it was 5 or 10 years ago.

Hurricane season is almost over with not one landing in the US and the insurance companies still raise their rates. An the Insurance companies reported a profit of $6 BILLION.

Just in my subdivision we had this week over 400 people questioning city officials about these issues. People all over are in a uproar about this all over Florida. Everuday you read in the newspaper of people selling and moving to Georgia, N. Carolina, S Carolina, etc. Florida is no longer a retirement place, it is not affordable anymore.

This is only one issue, if you add the economy, the War on Terror, Medicare, fuel prices, etc. You can see the country is up in arms with Congress, Senate and ultimately the President.

When 1 in 3 of Floridians are in this situation of increases after another and no solution from state representatives they pack the city council and its a free for all with people shouting at their council members to do something. Insurance companies are leaving Florida and the last resort of insurance is the State, they charge 3 to 4 times more. Next year it is projected that 2 of 4 in Florida will be insured by the state. At this trend it will be impossible for people living with a fixed income to stay in FL.

Between principal and interest I was paying in Aug 06, $500 plus escrow $125 for a total of $650 a month. Now (Oct 06) I am paying $500 for P/I and $500 for home insurance and property taxes for a new total of $1,000 a month.

Do not even think that you can live anywhere in FL with an income of less than $50K a year, you will not make it. Median price for a house in FL is $240,000. When you add P/I and escrow you are paying $1,500.00 to $2,000.00 average a month depending on your down payment.

I have still 2 years to retire and leave ASAP this place for our house in Desamparados, San Jose and live PURA VIDA.

There are two sides to negociations in the history of CR. Find out what happened when they highjacketed an airplane and landed in the airport of CR in the 60′. Pepe Figueres was the president and he blew the tires of the airplane in the Tarmac so they could not leave,
Juan Santamaria’s history and William Walker attempt to invade CR while he was financed by the southern states. In the first try he was beaten and had to return to the US after the state dept. ordered CR his release under duress. On his second attempt he was captured again and shot in Guanacaste at the Santa Rosa Hacienda.

    Interesting!
“I don’t believe much of what our goverment says” And you should NOT. I retired from the Army and worked in the Psychological and Civil Affairs department of 3 Joint Command’s with a Top Secret SCI clearance (if you have worked in the Gov. you Know what SCI means). I was stationed in SouthCom in Panama, European Command in Stuttgart, Germany and Special Ops. Command in Tampa, FL. PSYOP’S has 3 tools, the white (all truths), the black (all lies) and the grey (half truth and half lies).
To give this administration the credit for a conspiracy in 911 is to crown the most stupid goverment we have had for more than 7 years with an incredible intelligence. They use the grey and black propaganda, they have no clue on how to use the white, and besides, it does not benefit them.
They will manipulate the truth to their advantage and twist it with Spin’s and contradictory information making the most illogical lie a truth. Germany used this technique while repeating a lie over and over again until the whole nation belived it.
Now how can we salvage this mess we are in? The Election’s are very close, let’s see if the people with their vote’s change those in power in Washington, DC.

    Bradbarb:

You started a firestorm. But the issue is not only of nortamerican’s unhappy with their gov. Look at England, T. Blair is OUT. Mexico, did they steal the elections?

Immigration? We leave for other countries (US citizen’s) because we can economically. If I was working for Walmart, would I have the $$ to leave, Detroit, Miami, New York and go to CR?

TLC. Nobody can stop this. Mexico signed and now they have a BIG problem. It takes 6 farmers in Mexico 40 hours each to raise a crop of corn in 1 acre. It Takes a farmer in the US with the aid of technology (GPS, Weather Info, etc) in his tractor 10 hours to do the same. So we displaced 6 mexican farmers. Where do you think 4 of those will travel to make a better living.

Displacement of people goes both ways, you move up. Mexicans to make more $ in the USA, Nicas to make more in CR. Expats to live better in Mexico where there are more than 750,000 and CR where it is approx. 100,000. It is a matter of economy.

Are we really unhappy here in the US? Yes and No it depends who you ask. But why is it that some of the best of us are leaving the US.

Banco Popular is the same in CR and USA.

I recently went to Puerto Rico and opened an account with Scotia Bank, PR. It is the same Banco Nueva Scotia in CR. This is (Scotia) a canadian bank with no banks in the USA.

It is well established in the Carribean, Central and South America and you can use your ATM in all those areas.
