What a disappointment. My wife and I are making our first exploratory trip the first 2 weeks of April for the purpose of moving there later this year. I keep up with global central bank/govt attempts to keep floating but I sure thought CR was underneath all that. One of the reasons for moving is of course the wonderful things about CR but growingly important is escaping the US. I retire in 2 weeks.

I’ve got a bit of gold and silver, is there a way to bring it?

I looked on George’s website, looks good, but didn’t see any pricing info. What is a ‘typical’ price for a couple? They look to be all-inclusive.

Thanks pharg, I appreciate your response. I was aware of the possibility of launching a political debate and wish to steer clear of that drama, certainly on this forum, but elsewhere it’s probably a good catalyst for obtaining the joys of adrenalin. Way too easy for person A to become furious at person B and that is not pura vida.

My wife and I are forcefully drawn to the peaceful friendly lifestyle and the tropical beauty of the country as well as the perceived lower cost of living. Everywhere I look in researching the move I see nothing but glowing reports and lovely characteristics of life in CR. It seems pretty obvious that the good far outweighs the bad but I want to know up front what any unhappy surprises might lie ahead, mostly so they aren’t surprises.

After living in Tibas for an extended time in 1979, many shorter visits in the 80s and 90s, and seeing the accelerated decline in financial, social, and economic rule changes that seem(!) to target gringos throughout the past decade, we have decided to forego moving to Costa Rica.

I am constantly trying to find out what unhappy surprises my wife and I would have if we actually follow our plan to retire in CR mid ’16.

Your comment is taken seriously. Would you say the declines you mention are worse than those now or soon to be occurring in the US?
