Alexander,
Would you mind being reporting back to the forum from time to time as you pursue an off-grid solar system? It wasn’t that long ago that PV systems were not cost effective, but today initial costs have decreased significantly and with proper planning in terms of looking for ways to reduce load, PV systems are not affordable, though not cheap.

While I’m still in the U.S., solar power is an area I intend to pursue when I arrive in CR.

Good luck in your quest. Believe you are on the right track

though this post is old, I’d be curious from the view of the long time residents as to what “perks” are ruined by migrating Americans?
Is this the change of American influence on CR culture? Just curious
I wish that most americans would get the heck out of costa rica. I myself am an american and have lived here for over 10 years.. and most of the perks that have attracted me to costa rica are all slowly changing. much due to the U.S. migration here and all the attention that it brings along with that migration.

what a sad time

it may be time to look for anotehr country.

hey who knows.. maybe in a few years nicaraugua will be the place.. or maybe chile.. any suggestions for a future home
All,

this information you provided is great for those of us still in the states. I was contacted by the developer and was invited to a presentation via internet and phone. Living in Southern Nevada, I’m use to developer presentations and approach them with open mind and guarded wallet. I told the sales person that I would listen to whatever they had to say, but I was not going to purchase anything this year.
Needless to say, I was un-invited to the presentation.

for what it’s worth, here in southern Nevada, there are millions of dollars worth of houses and condos built on speculation that lie vacant.

Buying into a project that does not have a single shovel put in the ground is a risky venture, especially overseas.

I don’t believe I will be buying property from Hacienda Matapalo.

thanks
