MemberHey, Vegas, get a hold of yourself. The part of the interstate that passes through St. Louis (where we took a wrong turn) is not exactly an advertisement for the Tourist Bureau. It was rundown, burned out, garbage everywhere, broken cars strewn along the streets, broken windows, buildings on the verge of collapse, and a population that looked like something out of Mad Max. Sure, I’m going to slow down and take in the sights while I’m driving a brand new luxury car; yeah, that’s the ticket. I drove as fast through that area as I would’ve if I’d been in Bed-Stuy, Watts, Alphabet City, parts of the Bronx, or Five Points. That doesn’t make me ignorant or a racist. It actually makes me very aware of my circumstances and being able to perceive danger. I’m sure the crime capital of America has some good points, but I couldn’t care less, to be honest, of anything any urban area has to offer. And by the way, I have a lot of Black friends, and if you knew anything at all about me and the contributions I’ve made to our culture, you would know I haven’t a racist cell in my body. So I find your comments presumptive and completely off the wall. As for Columbine, I live quite a ways from the community that spawned these monsters, but it wasn’t actually their fault. If they had not been drugged up on psychiatric medications that now bear warnings of homicide and suicide, there wouldn’t have been the massacre. So you know Blackhawk, eh? Is that YOUR contribution to our mountain communities and society in general? Bringing in gambling to destroy the fabric of our society? Those were nice little towns (albeit on the decline), with beautiful historic Victorian architecture that has now been destroyed in the name of greed and corruption, with monoliths to rival Vegas perched on a mountainside that had to be blasted away to make room for these monstrosities. Thanks a lot.

MemberI called the airlines to make sure we could take overweight bags, and pay for the overage. Delta said fine. They aren’t really that overweight, and we only have 4 bags/boxes total, so i’m keeping my fingers crossed because if i don’t get that mural down there my bathroom will never get done.

MemberThere are some cultures in Africa who have never been exposed to industrialized foods, consequently they have almost zero incidences of cancer, stroke, or heart disease. They also have nearly perfect teeth. The minute we give these cultures our chemicalized, nutrient negative fast foods and processed garbage, they start to resemble our own society — they get fat, they have to take drugs, they start getting cancer, and all the other manmade diseases. In cultures where the diet is simple, even rice and beans, or a slug of blood from their cow, the population is healthier than the general population in America where the stats are now that 70% of our population is overweight/obese and we are bankrupting our medical systems with these created illnesses.

MemberThanks for all the helpful suggestions, guys. I’ve done all the staging, etc. that one can reasonably do. My house looks like a perfect Martha Stewart set, but with 8 feet of snow still on the ground and subzero temps, every real estate broker i’ve talked to said things are really slow right now. Tomorrow the broker who wants to buy it for herself is coming to look — for the third time. The good news is that my house and everything in it in Costa Rica is paid for — and I have no outstanding debt of any kind but for the mortgage here in Colorado. But taking an $80,000 hit was hard to stomach, and I know that based on comps in my area, that the house is priced right and if we were to list it now on the upswing in my neighborhood, it would surely sell this summer (if this broker doesn’t buy it). I’ve had this house 18 years, so yes, I’ve made a substantial profit and taken out a lot of equity in a refi to make improvements, and at this point I’m willing to take whatever loss I have to just to get away from here and be in Costa Rica.

MemberDictators can do whatever they want, when they want, so I suppose if they are really going to restrict taking our greenbacks out of the US, then attacking social security would be the way to go, but there will be a revolution if they do it! Having said that, they already have restrictions in place if you owe child support — you ain’t gonna get a passport, so nothing the fascists do will surprise me, but targeting the old farts who are going to croak soon won’t be as profitable as cutting off SSA for the gen Xers.

MemberI like it when doctors say that depression isn’t a Prozac deficiency, although Big Pharma would have you think that it was. Someone sent me this link with a cartoon about Ritalin and Prozac. Don’t know why parents want to dope their kids on a drug that the Nazis engineered.

MemberAnd as long as you are willing to pay overweight charges. It still seems like the cheapest way to get stuff to CR. We’re bringing the mosaic Monet mural for our bathroom — 3 boxes that weigh 66 pounds each, so that’s only $25 extra per box. Would’ve cost $1000 to ship it UPS (and then there’s customs to deal with).

MemberWe’ve dropped the price of our house by $80,000 then finally got disgusted with the realtors and the market and just took it off the market last Fall. I’m just not willing to go any lower and take a complete bath when the market would’ve supported our price two years ago. We now have one of the realtors who showed the house interested in buying it for herself. At this point if she gives us the price we had it listed for, minus what we would’ve paid for a RE commission, she can have it. I’m sick of the markets being manipulated by the vultures.

MemberAnd it’s STILL $26. That other person who paid $100 got flimflammed.

MemberThe countries where you cannot receive your SS benefits are places like Cuba, Turkmenistan, and a couple of other countries that are hostile to America, or are perceived as such by the goons in D.C. There are literally MILLIONS of retirees who lives outside the US — the liklihood of the feds restricting this benefit is remote at best. Where I live in the States, the housing bubble exploded and you can’t sell anything here — not the half-million dollar shack nor the 3 million dollar vacation home.

MemberAnd that will happen when Pigs fly!!!! I AM trying to get out of here while we still can, and I don’t apologize for it. I feel as though I am in some sort of twilight gulag. Forget about the citizenry waking up and smelling the coffee — they’ve been brainwashed otherwise how else can you account for who is sleeping in the big white house.

MemberOh boy, I guess I have some accounting to do if I have to log in all the water and electric bills into my ledger. UGH! Who knew? Anyway, I’ve been told that if my SA is “inactive” there is no need to file anything, and supposedly my SA was set up like that, but just to be on the safe side, I’ve contacted the lawyer who did my corporation and asked him to make sure that it’s “inactive” and I guess I will be lugging those 6 books down there with me and this time I’ll leave them.

MemberI’ve driven through St. Louis — as fast as I can. What a horrible place. I currently live in a small town in the mountains outside of Denver where the average house costs $500,000. The only minorities here are the Chinese kids that the rich yuppies are adopting. But when I see the knews in Denver, I cringe because there are murders and shooting and robberies and all kinds of ghastly events every single day. We are isolated up here — leave our keys in our cars, don’t worry if we forgot to lock the door at night (we’d wake up in the morning unlike in some places), so for me, the crime in Costa Rica pales in comparison to the daily crime events in any urban area in America.

MemberAaaaaggggghhhhhhh — I can’t stand it — the US will never be happy until every single living breathing thing is living in fear of terrorism or whatever their other agenda is. I know there is no escape from the b.s. and last night I was lying in bed thinking about all the recent posts on crime and violence in Costa Rica, and I have to say that the only time I am fearless, happy, relaxed, and free of anxiety about getting raped, purse-snatched, shot at random, kidnapped, car jacked, mugged, beaten or any of the other acts of mayhem that regularly plague our american society is when I am in Costa Rica where I don’t see television, don’t read the propaganda sheets disguised as newspapers, and am not living in constant fear that someone wearing a beard and headdress isn’t going to blow up the local Perimercado. The minute I set foot in Gringolandia, the fear and paranoia sets in — starting with the fascistic immigration officials and then the terrorizing TSA. It scares me to think of what is going to happen in Nicragua because we will never get our stinking fingers out of that pie. My spook friend told me two years ago NOT to think about moving to Nicaragua because the Navy Seals had moved in and were positioned for an uprising. Maybe Uruguay will be my next move, or someplace on the pampas of Argentina.
