Jet Blue does not take dogs in cargo, but I understand that other airlines do. Sorry I can’t help with that, but if you contact the individual airlines, they will give you their policy.

Jet Blue does charge $100 each way and you do have to have the required documentation, but we have been very happy with our experience.
Hi,
My husband and I have been two years in a row to Atenas staying in a rental (that we loved) for a month each time.

Now we are ready to come and stay a little longer or maybe 6 months. I’m having more trouble finding flights to CR from Ft Lauderdale that I can bring my 11 lb. mini doxie.

They all say they don’t fly pets international??? It’s a 2hr30min flight but it would be OK to have him on a 6 hr flt to LA??? Go figure.

Been two years without my dog and just can’t do it again espically if staying longer.

Any help from anybody would be greatly appreciated. We fly out of Lauderdale but would be glad to go to Miami.

    Pura Vida,
    Gayle
Jet blue is wonderful. We fly out of Orlando with our 13 pound doxie and have never had a problem. She sits in her pet carrier under the seat (they even sell pet carriers and have a program called Jet Paws. I’m pretty sure they ffly out of Ft Lauderdale, but Orlando is not that far.

I am very interested in following this conversation. I too am diabetic, but I am on an insulin pump. I have no problem getting insulin, but the pump requires infusion sets that are available only from Medtronic, which as of now has not expanded to Costa Rica. Since I am in CR only for 4 months, I try to stockpile my needs so that I don’t run out before I go back to the States. I’ve been lucky so far. By the way, David, are there no other glucose monitors that have strips that you can buy in CR? I can use only One touch since that is what works with my pump.

My comment has to do with Randy’s tone throughout this thread. I have been following this forum for several years. I don’t participate very often but I could not read the accusative and almost slanderous comments that he made to Scott. I have found Scott’s management of this forum to be helpful and honest, offering sites where people can get the information they need without having to spoonfeed it to a questioner. Your frustration at being unable to satisfy your desire for answers, Randy, does not excuse your rudeness and antagonism. I know that Scott doesn’t need me to defend him (I don’t know Scott personally), but I don’t like the kind of rhetoric that you displayed. That’s not what this forum is for. You can respond to me or not, but I won’t reply. I join the others in suggesting that you find out what you need to know by spending time in Costa Rica and doing on-site research

Hello David, We have been in Costa Rica several times, last year 3 months – Feb thru April, mostly in the Central Valley area – Puriscal, Atenas, Grecia, San Ramon, although we also took trips along the coast to Jaco and all the way down to Drake Bay and Puerto Jimenez. The point being – we did fine without a 4-wheel drive. Of course, we were not there in rainy season, and the only problem we had was getting up some very steep inclines in the mountainous areas, especially on dirt or gravel roads.. But we made it – and it’s a lot cheaper than the four-wheelers.

I haven’t been on the Forum in a while, but I must admit, this thread send me in a downhill spiral. I am aware of many of the problems that are mentioned here, but the negativism is very depressing. I, personally, do not like conflict, and I see a lot of that here. It makes me very sad. I love Costa Rica and I enjoy the time we spend there, but I’m not crazy about the idea of people judging my motives and actions when I am there. I am sure that Scott doesn’t delete posts without a good reason. Do you think a more positive attitude might be conveyed?

Senator Sanders’ remarks are his opinion, and later in his interview he admits that President Obama has not made any committments regarding SS. We all know that SS probably places the biggest demand on federal monies and that this and other entitlement programs are going to have to be addressed, but that doesn’t necessarily mean reducing payments to retirees. SS no longer resembles the SS it was set out to be as payments are going to those that are not retirees and Congress raids the fund. If these problems are addressed, which could be considered as “cutting social security) SS can be on a sound footing for a long time. But it’s going to take a collaboative effort to do it and the President is only one part of that.
Although Walmart has a few stores, I don’t think they will open a pharmacy to sell to their American customers, as ex-pats are only a very small percentage of their customers and of the population of the country.
Plus, as mentioned before, we are spread out all over the place….
You know, costaricafina, most of us relative newbies to this forum are really trying to find out things that they will need to know if they are going to spend time in CR (live permanently or part time) and they use this forum to get information from people who have benn in CR and who might be able to help. Sarcasm is offensive and doesn’t help!

When I was in Puntarenas back in January, I went to a pharmacy and bought a vial of Humalog. Of course I wasn’t using Caja and paid cash. I guess I’ll just need to stock up each time I go back to the states. Thanks for the update.

Thank you for your comments. The only med I need for my diabetes is insulin which is readily available in CR. I’m sure that there are tico diabetics that need it too. The insulin pump is a means of administering the insulin and I wanted to find out about transporting the devices that make the administering of the insulin possible. I have since learned about courier services and have thought about going through an endocrinologist. I certainly wouldn’t consider moving anywhere that I could not take care of myself.

Did you know that JetBlue will accomodate pets in-cabin? I don’t know all the places that JetBlue serves in the states, but I checked on Orlando, and they have a direct flight to CR and will take dogs and cats. I don’t know anything about the CR end of the deal.
