ParticipantThere seem to be many companies that install systems, but don’t count on them responding to your alarm going off. Only a few do this, and it will be in very specific areas.

ParticipantWell, one did have it once 😆

ParticipantNo, you can’t do this!

ParticipantVery little choice in offered regarding these facilities. What is available, is not inexpensive and is staffed by caring, but mostly Spanish speaking staff. What there seems to be, is nothing like what is offered in North America.
Realize, that she would be covered by CAJA but not by the private insurance policies offered here.costaricafinca
ParticipantYou really should contact your local tax expert and not rely on forum members, especially when most replying are from the USA.
Also check with your local government ‘Service center’.
For tax purposes you may wish to become a ‘non-resident of Canada’.
An excerpt from the ‘Service Canada page’ .
“If you are a non-resident of Canada for income tax purposes, your CPP payment may be subject to non-resident tax up to a maximum of 25% of the gross benefit amount. The tax rate depends on the country where you live. If your income is low, you can apply to have the rate reduced. For more information, please contact the Canada Revenue Agency”.costaricafinca
ParticipantBefore starting the residency process, it is important to determine if Costa Rica really has what you need, and whether you can afford it, especially if you are on a limited budget.
Obviously, costs will vary with your choice of lifestyle and where you decide to live and what you decide to life without.costaricafinca
ParticipantObviously your sister cannot manage her finances there, so to even expect her to manage them here with half the amount will probably very difficult for her.
Can she change or will she even want to alter her lifestyle?
She should be able to do but somehow I doubt she will be happy to do so.
Don’t forget that she will have to have enough finds to pay to import and pay the duty her vehicle. Paying for the running of it, should be fine with this budget…but it will depend on what other expenses she incurs.

Ticos like expats live with varying incomes. It isn’t uncommon for them to own or rent in very expensive gated communities. In fact, in the upper class communities they are the in majority.costaricafinca
ParticipantJust been to Riteve to pick up, fill in and handover the required form. Contrary to what I had been previously told, they did indeed copy and stamp us a receipt.
As often here in CR, the rules and requirements, often differ, depending on who you are dealing with. 🙄costaricafinca
ParticipantNo, I personally do not know anyone that had it done using the CAJA system, since they did not want to wait two years for the surgery.

ParticipantI was advised that they will not stamp or issue a receipt on demand, but they will email it to the address listed on the form, to prove that they did indeed get the form from you.

ParticipantJust request one or print it from your computer. Consevi

ParticipantYes. This bit of news hit the forums a short time ago after appearing on the online newspapers.
We actually went to pick up a form on Monday, at a Policia de Tránsito facility since our printer is out of commission, and was told ‘they knew nothing about it’!
From what we read, if you don’t provide them with an email address, you cannot say that you ‘didn’t get the information, so can’t dispute the charge.costaricafinca
ParticipantThere is an tale, where a builder omitted the kitchen sink, due to the fact there was a dishwasher being installed…

Participant”We’ll just have to see for ourselves” is the only way to find out whether or not you can afford to live here, on your own particular budget.

ParticipantCanadians are spread throughout the country! There is a Canadian Club of Costa Rica however due to so many people wanting advice, their personal contact information is not on the website, with only a few exceptions.
When you are in CR next, you could come to one of the lunches and meet some of us. Big Canada Day Party Planned! -
