Spending time on the beach is a favored activity for both tourists and property owners in Costa Rica.

Ease of access and proximity to quality beaches is always a top criterion when purchasing a vacation property near the ocean. Just like with other Osa Peninsula locations, the Sierpe River Valley is home to some spectacular beaches, and because all of the beaches near Sierpe are boat access only, they are guaranteed to always be private and pristine.

In addition to offering great views and tranquil, beautiful surroundings, several of the beaches are ideal for enjoying adventure activities such as fishing, snorkeling, shelling, surfing, whale watching, and lobster diving.

Countless beaches are easily accessible by boat from the Sierpe del Pacifico riverfront docks. Here are brief descriptions of the more popular beaches.

  • Boca Sierpe.

The quickest and easiest beaches to get to from Sierpe del Pacifico are the those on either side of the mouth of the Sierpe River. Both beaches have small, calm bays where anyone in any size watercraft can safely park their boat directly on the beach.

The beaches are extremely private, and having them to all to yourself will be the norm. The views here are quite grand with the ocean to the west, Isla Violin to the north, and the Sierpe River and Costanera Fila mountain ranges to the east.

During the hours surrounding low tide fishing directly from the beach for snook, snapper, and roosterfish can be excellent. Also, depending on the tide and swell conditions you can surf on waves that only see a few boards throughout the entire course of the year.

  • San Josecito.

Playa San Josecito is arguably the most popular beach in the Sierpe/Drake Bay area and for good reason. Everything that one would desire in a beach setting is here: great snorkeling around several large coral heads, fine sand, and plenty of palm trees for shade.

Mooring a boat here is easy on one of the several large public buoys. Furthermore a series of rocks protect the cove surrounding the beach ensuring safe, tranquil waters in all types of sea conditions. San Josecito is located about 5 miles south of the Sierpe River mouth and takes about 45 minutes to get too from Sierpe del Pacifico.

  • Cano Island.

The Cano Island beach is definitely the most beautiful beach one can access from Sierpe del Pacifico and is a great place to spend an hour or so eating lunch and relaxing during fishing or snorkeling trips near the island.

The views of the entire Pacific Coast and ocean are truly breathtaking here. In addition to spending time on the beach, there are several great trails for hiking on the island. During the months of October — January humpback whales can be seen with frequency from the beach.

  • Boca Guaramal.

Branching off from the main channel of the Sierpe River about one third of the way to the ocean from Sierpe del Pacifico is the Rio Guaramal. Because of the shape and shallow depth of the Guaramal river mouth the beaches here are unusually calm and tranquil.

The process of beaching your boat here is extremely easy as well. Given the remote location of this beach, absolute privacy is guaranteed. With the location of several bird rookeries nearby, sightings of numerous types of seabirds are common. Snook fishing is also very good here.
