In looking through the electronic brochure for the new St. Regis resort in Costa Rica, one is immediately struck by the abundant use of sugary sweet superlatives to describe their new project.

The “celebrated luxury of St. Regis” and “its inimitable service and its dedication to excellence” as they continue to seek only “the world’s most exclusive addresses” is soon to be in Costa Rica.

They may not yet be aware that in Costa Rica their “exclusive address” may end up being “500M west of the old Guanacaste tree” and, how could we forget the “culinary magic” and the “legendary services of the St. Regis Butler” especially when their new one bedroom homes here in Costa Rica which start at US$750,000 don’t appear to include a kitchen!

With a “sophisticated medley of rich textures” you would of course be able to enjoy the “elegant sanctuary of your home” which “elevates all notions of luxurious living.”

With one bedrooms starting at $750,000 one can only imagine what the prices will be of the “limited number of custom estate homes” that are “certain to be the grandest homes in Costa Rica.”

We don’t have a print out of their prices yet, but here’s the information one of our VIP Members was given on the telephone – these are “base” prices meaning the lowest price in each category for the most “modest” units.

The fixing of prices on each of the 60 units is not to occur until mid-November and they plan to complete construction in late 2008.

  • Stand alone three bedroom units: US$3,000,000
  • Two bedroom units: US$1,500,000
  • One bedroom condos (30 of them) From US$750,000 up to US$1,000,000 each.

Now obviously people have a right to “invest” their money in whatever real estate they wish and, there’s obviously a market for “super-high-end-ultra-extra-silly” prices but, rich people didn’t get that way because they are stupid people.

So let’s make a deal that will save you a cool US$250,000!

If you are seriously considering their “cheapest” one bedroom condo for a mere US$750,000 – come down to Costa Rica, let’s have lunch and we’ll have a good chat about the birds, the bees and the price of real estate in Costa Rica and then we’ll arrange for you to meet a top-notch real estate broker who will show you a dozen or more superb, luxury developments where you’ll get three times as many bedrooms as St. Regis at half the price and…

As a special, unique one of a kind deal, we’ll even arrange for them to throw in a luxury kitchen for you and… Wait! There’s more, you’ll probably still have change left over for a brand new car!

Then again, you remember that story about Tyco CEO Dennis Kozlowski buying a “… $15,000 for a dog-shaped umbrella stand, $6,300 for a sewing basket, $17,000 for a traveling toilette box, $2,200 for a gold-plated wastebasket, $2,900 on coat hangers, $1,650 for an appointment book, $5,900 for sheets, $445 for a pincushion, and $6,000 on a shower curtain.”

He’s got to be at the top of the prospect list for this new St. Regis project in Costa Rica, don’t you think?

PS. And the butler? I didn’t forget… In Costa Rica, you could probably hire a butler, a maid, a full-time nurse and a driver for what they’ll be charging you for their “culinary magic” and the “legendary services.”
