If you’re looking for one of the best destinations around Costa Rica to pursue your passion of sport fishing then you can’t go past Tamarindo. The country of Costa Rica is famous for its abundance and variety of wildlife. This biodiversity continues down into the ocean as well — especially in the waters around Tamarindo.

During April through September you will have plenty of opportunity to pit your skills against magnificent species such as Sailfish, Blue, Black, and Striped Marlin, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, and Dolphin. As this is the rainy season of Costa Rica you will enjoy calm oceans with some rain in the afternoon. The dry season of October through December is still ideal where you can expect to be challenged with a variety of species, including billfish.
During December through March the winds pick up around this area so the best fishing can be found about 12 miles south for shelter from the wind and some excellent Marlin and Yellowfin Tuna fishing, with a few Sailfish and Dorado thrown in for good measure. Expect to enjoy the fishing in relatively calm waters but be prepared for the bumpy ride there and back.
As the area around Tamarindo is world renowned for its rewarding sports fishing challenges there are a wide variety of charter operations to choose from who each give access to some of the best fishing in the area at an affordable price.
