Let’s be honest. People think about food probably as much as they think about that three letter word that starts with an S.

It’s just human nature. Food plays such a huge role in our lives and is a key essential element for most travelers.

Trying the traditional local cuisine in a foreign country has always been something I could not wait for. However, having variety is also a good thing. I mean one can only take so much rice and beans per week here in Costa Rica.

Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love those 3,000 colones ($6) “Casado con Pescado” dishes, fresh ceviche off the street, or that good old fashioned gallo pinto with fried eggs and cheese in the morning, but it’s also nice to be able to get a great steak, pasta, sushi, or even an American style burger with all the love and grease one can put into it from time to time.

That’s what is so great about Playa Sámara. It has become a self sustainable community with a wide variety of restaurants and amenities to choose from, and in doing so it has still been able to keep its Costa Rican authenticity.

One new particular enjoyable establishment is definitely spicing things up here in the downtown commercial sector of town. Its known has Coco’s Mexican Restaurant.

Owners Steve Jarrett and Miryam Gonzalez who are also the business owners of the well established cocktail lounge and sushi bar La Vela Latina, opened their doors to public in early 2012.

From their “Big Ass” Margarita punch bowls, spicy fish tacos with homemade mango sauce, to their sizzling chicken, beef and Portobello mushroom fajitas, Coco’s has not only been catching the attention of the tourists, but also the local residents within the community.
