Dining out is one of my favorite past times. Living on the South Pacific coast of Costa Rica for the last ten years has given me the unique opportunity to discover some of the area’s best restaurants.

From seafood specialties, traditional Costa Rican dishes, gourmet fusion cuisine to international classics, this beautiful region offers much more than just white sandy beaches and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.

With a diverse range of culinary delights to enjoy, great service and opportunities to meet new friends, you’ll be spoilt for choice when deciding on where to dine out next!

Loaded with flavor, and always fresh.

The food on the South Pacific coast is as good or even better than many first-class restaurants in North America or Europe. Restaurants pride themselves on using top quality meats and seafood. Many support and source ingredients from the local community and respect the land and sea that helps create some of the regions’ most delicious dishes.

One such example is La Palapa, located at the Cuna de Angel Hotel. Situated in front of the entrance of Puertocito, this restaurant offers a great selection of gourmet food. La Palapa is designed around a circular shape, in homage to the traditional dwelling of the ingenious Boruca tribe.

Serving breakfast, lunch, snacks, cocktails and an exquisite and singular menu at night, La Palapa offers a selected choice of wines and specialized chefs that can fulfill all types of tastes and dietary requirements.

Try some traditional Costa Rican favorites.

Popular with local residents for many years, La Parcella combines sweeping views of Playa Dominicalito with delicious seafood dishes. Considered to be one of the best locations for a sunset dinner, La Parcella is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are a variety of dishes to try; pasta, salads, local specialties and the famous table side flambé desert.

If you fancy trying typical Costa Rican cuisine with a French twist, why not book a table at the regionally inspired ¿Por Que No? restaurant at Costa Paraiso’s hotel. Located in Dominical, you can experience oceanside dining and delicious menu items whilst taking in the beautiful backdrop of the South Pacific coast.

Surfer-style snacks.

Located towards the Southern end of Dominical, the Refuge is famous for serving up some of the best burgers in town, along with delicious fries and a top secret sauce! Situated at the Piramys Surf Hotel, the Refuge is a laid-back surfer’s haunt. The owners, Mike and Starla offer friendly service, great food and amazing waves right outside the front door.

Ideal for surfer and skater fans, the Tortilla Flats is considered to be one of Dominical’s most popular and busiest hangouts. Home to the only skate ramp in the Southern Pacific Zone, this restaurant is the perfect place to enjoy excellent food and friendly service.

Customers can enjoy the spectacular sunsets that Dominical is famous for, along with ordering some of the delicious menu items available, including healthy sandwiches, fish tacos, fresh tuna, and local Costa Rican dishes known as casados.

Dining out should never be boring.

Not to be missed by the Volkswagen camper van suspended at the restaurant’s entrance, the San Clemente Bar & Grill is the ultimate hang-out for those looking for something just a little bit different. Located on Dominical’s main road, customers can dine inside or out, or even choose to sit in the old school bus built into the wall.

Offering breakfast, lunch and dinner, this restaurant cooks up typical western dishes and Costa Rican food, including filling burgers, sandwiches, rice and seafood dishes.

This is also the home of the famous Spicy Mike’s Homemade Hot Sauce. A community notice board and post office are also located here.

Make time to dine out!

Whether you are just vacationing on the South Pacific coast or planning on relocating to our welcoming community, dining out is a great way to experience amazing food and make new friends. With amazing dishes to try and opportunities to expand your social circle, dining out on Costa Rica’s South Pacific coast is an experience not to be missed!
