What can I say about the weird and wonderful creatures of Costa Rica?

What is this? Please tell me if you know?

There are many! I have come across most of them doing there thing while I am walking with my four legged friend Vashik.

There are two pairs of black shouldered kites in my area and it took me a while to get close enough to them to identify them. They are majestic looking birds of prey with such an innocent sounding cry however, they are obviously very accomplished and deadly hunters.

This young scorpion above certainly woke me up one morning when he stung me as I put my hand in my dive bag…

Painful? Yes! But unless you are allergic, the scorpions in Costa Rica are really no more dangerous than a serious wasp bite. If you are stung by a scorpion, you should certainly seek medical attention, just in case.

I would be very grateful if you would help identify any of these unidentified creatures… If you know what they are please email me and I will be happy to give you credit for identifying it…

This guy (above) is the Saddleback Caterpillar (Sibine stimulea) and is only about one inch long. Now you know where the science fiction writers get there ideas from eh?

I found this blue headed beauty above on a friends tree

No! I didn’t find this one above while walking my dog. This tapir lives in the ‘La Marina’ animal rescue centre.

This one above is also about one inch long

I came across this boa constrictor snake above walking my dog… It was at least six feet long but, by the time I managed to get my camera out, most of it had slithered into this old ant hill. As usual my dog didn’t even notice.

Talking about my rescued dog ‘Vashik’ who has since gone to that great kennel in the sky… Here he is below.
