Being in real estate I meet a lot of people on a near daily basis and the most common question I am asked from parents is, “what is there for kids to do?”

For those of you who have children, you will understand when I say that we have become a shuttle service to our 4 year old daughter. We are so busy juggling our schedule to meet all of her many obligations we need to find time for ourselves!

What started out as a fun horseback tour to the beach has become an obsession for Mikayla. She started riding lessons at Rancho La Merced a few months back and it is amazing how much she has learned from their patient tutelage.

She is only 4 years old yet she can now trot, gallop and has absolutely no fear. I am really impressed… maybe it is because I am not an avid rider or maybe it is a bit of the proud parent syndrome, who knows, but it is amazing to watch her ride and it is something that we can do at 1/3 of the cost than back in the USA.

Another one of her favorite activities is attending ballet classes at Happy Feet Ballet Studio in Lagunas de Baru under the instruction of her Ballet Mistress.

It is adorable to see a group of little girls running around in a tutu and crown dancing, learning to hold themselves with grace and having fun, too. As an added bonus, her instructor also happens to be a professional dancer who studied ballet, danced professionally AND is wonderful with children!

Of course the kids love it more because of the recitals and getting dressed up in costumes…

A very important class we insisted upon was swimming and water safety instruction with Ms. Kelly. Because our kids are surrounded by water we felt it was a necessity and lucky for us that in our community we have a wonderful teacher.

Kelly is so great with kids and had our daughter swimming by the end of class. Now 8 months later she is charging on a boogie board and we have to bribe her with ice cream just to leave the beach.

Next are surfing lessons, kayak…

This is just to name a few of her favorites to give you an idea of the variety of activities for kids to enjoy here in Costa Ballena on the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
