The weather here on Thursday 4th March 2010 was dark, downright oppressive and it wasn’t just because Hillary Clinton was visiting San Jose, Costa Rica for the ‘Pathways to Prosperity’ Ministerial Meeting.

[custom_script adID=149]

According to Hillary, Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas is all about helping to “… create conditions that enable people to obtain the economic and social opportunities critical to national and regional stability and progress.”

Yes! I know what you’re thinking.., more fairy tales but, it’s the thought that counts, right?

It’s fascinating watching politicians fly around the world (paid for by the taxpayer of course), preaching to anyone who will listen about how to best manage their affairs when the politician’s own house is a complete and total disaster.

Talking about houses, you saw that in Detroit, Michigan, one of the largest cities in the USA that, “The average price of a home sold in the city last year has been put at $7,500.”

[custom_script adID=151]

They’re certainly enjoying the “economic and social opportunities” in Detroit.

After the sniper fire subsided, in her speech Hillary Clinton said that: “What I like about Pathways to Prosperity is that it provides a critical forum where nations committed to democracy and open markets can share the best practices for promoting social and financial inclusion.”

In politico-speak – more commonly known as lying-through-your-teeth – this means that it will be standard operating procedure, the “same old, same old,” where big US corporation are “included” in the “open” market and small to medium sized Costa Rican corporation will be excluded.

She spoke about “supporting women entrepreneurs across the hemisphere,” how women today are often overlooked or excluded when looking for credit and how women have said to her, “A lot of dreams die in the parking lots of banks.”

Yup! After the US tax payer has funded the $12.8 trillion bailout (which is $42,105 for every man, woman and child in the US and 14 times the $899.8 billion of currency in circulation) it really is a crying shame that the people responsible – the Wall Street bigwigs, the ex-Goldman Sachs politicians and the ‘too-big-to-fail’ banks executives who somehow continue to be rewarded sickening bonuses for helping to bring the global economy to its’ knees – are not also dying in the parking lots!

And Costa Rica has certainly not “overlooked” or “excluded” women… For those of you who haven’t had the time to follow politics in this land of stunning scenery, sunshine and smiles, Costa Rica’s new President is a woman – Laura Chinchilla – who, has succeeded through her own hard work and determination and not because she came from a wealthy, “connected” family or was previously married to the President of the USA.

And on Friday, the day after Miss Frigidaire left, the new Alice in Wonderland movie began showing in Costa Rica…

A coincidence?

I don’t think so….

Scott, Your lack of objectivity makes for poor journalism. I will be unsubscribing.

Excellent introductory comments to this e-mail. You have a thoroughly good grasp of the situation here. And you nailed Hillary. Good job.

While I agree with much of what you say about American corporate power and the exclusion of international competitors, you dismiss Hilary Clinton as a woman who has risen to a postion of influence simply as the wife of a former president. She was a very effective senator from New York, and she has worked very hard to promote peaceful global cooperation as Secretary of State.

It’s risky in your line of work–marketing Costa Rica and marketing Costa Rican real estate–to make political statements, and I commend you for courage. But your argumentum ad hominem rings a loud warning gong for those of us who might be interested in your services sometime in the future.

I happen to like Hillary- and all other demos a helluva lot better than our Repub folks like George Bush and Dick Cheney. Is your blog just for conservatives?

In my opinion the US has no business worryig about Costa Rica or any other country for that matter. Let them all stand on their own & let’s take care of the problems we have. By the way, Detroit should have been a good indicator of what happens when Liberals run the show!

As an American and a fan of Costa Rica who has read your email for the past couple years, this edition really offened me. I rely on your emails to update me on what is going on in CR and not to read about your personal politics. If you want to Hillary bash, do it some where else.

I am an inch from unsubscribing but in fairness, wanted to voice my opinon and hope the future emails will focus on information about CR and not offering your personal policital views about any politician – US, CR or any other country. It is simply not what your newsletter is supposed to do.

Hi Scott, you are so right, people do not realize what they are saying. We are just ordinary people, but we know a lot more then these people from higher places think. They do not live in the country but want to change it, maybe the US and Canada, where I am from should look in their own back yard before judging Costa Rica and other countries.

I am sorry that you have suggested that Hillary Clinton might have been/could have been/should have been shot at, with your reference to sniper fire.

The only sniping that I know of is your little diatribe about her visit.

Not all the people moving here from the US are fat, Republican men looking for some good-looking Costa Rican to use like toilet paper.

Let me remind you that educated, Democratic women are also here on the scene and will not be ignored.

You can take your very ignorant and too clever Old Boys attitude and shove it.
Please do not send your sadly oppinionated, miserable little rag to me any longer.

I don’t care to have one of the brightest women in the political scene today slandered by a pathetic masogynastic prick.

You obviously can’t abide a powerful, educated woman after paying for the admiration of the women here that are sadly disadvantaged and desperate enough to please you and your cronies.

Fuck off.

I loved this article on Hilary! What a nut! She needs to just stay away from our tranquilo Costa Rica. She can hang out in Afghanistan or wherever else she is “helping” change the world. We always love your insight and speaking truth. Cindy and Gerry Hunter

Whats’a matter Scott – not a Hillary fan??! LOL

Actually, NAME lived his whole life in upstate New York. When Hillary was running for Senator of NY, NAME told his friends that if she got elected, he’d have to leave the state. She did and he did. Now with me here in North Carolina, NAME told his friends that if Obama got elected, he would have to leave the country. You have to admire a man who keeps his word!!

Thank goodness for that.

Now if we could just get Hilary to leave the USA that would be something.

Loved your comments Scott! Keep them coming!

Cheers,

Scott, brother, you struck a nerve with me in this one! I agree agree AGREE! The whole bail out thing in the US and Europe makes my stomach turn. When I mentioned on my Facebook status that Hillary was down here – HELP. All my friends told me it was my duty as a US citizen to make sure that she doesn’t leave!

Its so frustrating to me what Governments and Central Banks do in cahoots with each other! 1st this whole thing of printing money on the fly to subsidize some cause bought with votes is just wrong. The other thing that bothers me is the idea of the government providing for the needs of the citizens. Its clear in the 2nd paragraph of the Declaration of Independence the purpose of government, and that is to protect Natural Rights of the citizen, not provide for their needs.

Any way, you got me ranting! Thanks for the E-zine. Good stuff!

I have subscribed to your newsletter mainly to stay informed on the real estate market in CR. After reading your article I want to Thank You for your perspective on US politicians. I share your views and cannot believe that most people in the world are gullable enough to actually listen to these idiots.

This commentary on Hillary Clinton was disappointing. Hillary Clinton is an accomplished brilliant woman separate from her husband. Your bitter partisan political comments are ruining this publication for me. If this is how you feel about Hillary Clinton, I will not be reading your web pages in the future.

Your very vile trashing of Hillary convinces me the Alice in Wonderland dream world is the one that you and your Glen Beck thinkalikes live in. You convinced me that the intellectual climate( or lack of it) in Costa Rica is something that I will avoid.

Scott I generally love your newsletter but not all of us share your political views. Perhaps you could have a link just for political commentaries, that way we don’t have to read then before we get to your other articles, property links. We can Love Costa Rica and the States. 🙂

Your Hillary visit article is true to the tenth power. If the banksters and their lobbyist sucks didn’t “own” (bought and paid for) the US congress and senate the bail out bull shit would never have happened.

Pardon the intrusion (I’m Canadian..we’re sorry for everything):) but I think you may have gotten one thing wrong in your article on Hillary Clinton. She did not get her job because she was married to a former President of the U.S.. She did not get the presidency, because she was married to a former president of the U.S. Her husband, however, did get the presidency because he was married to her, and her family. If he had not “misbehaved”, she may well have been the current president. This however does not change what you have said about current US intentions. May Costa Rice stay unaligned with the US. They are doing a good job without interference and interference is the US middle name.
