With 6,300 employees Hewlett Packard (HP) Costa Rica has been chosen by the parent company in the US as one of only six important, global infrastructure technology support centers.

From Costa Rica this multinational company offers network administration services, customer support with e-mail applications, server support to corporate clients such as Procter & Gamble not just in the US but all over the world.

In an article in La Nacion newspaper, HP Executives Jeff Womack and Ludger Rohlmann stated that: “Costa Rica has proven to be a tremendous operation. Not only have we seen what can be done with clients in North America but also in other countries in Europe, to provide services in other languages and in other areas such as financial support,” said Womack.

Hewlett Packard also has operations in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico but Costa Rica beat them all to be nominated as one of the six most important global infrastructure technology centers along with Bulgaria, India, Malaysia, Philippines and China. This designation is the first to be awarded to a Latin American country.

Both executives explained that the company appreciated; “the talent of the workforce” and Rohlmann said that: “We really feel very proud of the HP operation in Costa Rica. There are opportunities to continue growing, we are growing fast. We like the country and we are the largest employer in high technology.”

HP started in Costa Rica in August 2003 with 123 employees and now has 6,300 employees

In its announcement on the appointment of the six global centers, HP said it would invest $1 billion in the transformation and expansion of global business services.
