One of the things that makes my job fun and our market & community special is the diversity of people that come here seeking ownership.

Seeking ownership means that one has crossed a certain threshold; someone has gone from casual interest to initial excitement, then well on their way to serious commitment.

From my perspective the folks coming here for something beyond the two week vacation are still in large part from the US (coast to coast), Canada, Europe and South America.

A diverse group by any account. Each represents it’s own culture, it’s own origin and it’s own case. In fact, it’s one of the things that also makes our market more healthy and sustainable – we don’t just pull new community members and buyers from one region, rather from many regions.

The one thing I hear these folks (Boston, Texas, Montana, Calgary, B.C., Italy, Venezuela, UK, etc) most consistently say is, “we travel a lot, and Costa Rica is the only place we’ve not only returned to multiple times, but have made a conscious decision to become more attached to this place.”

Seriously, many if not most of my clients are well traveled, well cultured and have had a good bit of exposure around the world. I hear them say, “we really like a lot of places we’ve been to in the past, but Costa Rica is the only place we keep coming back to!”

I think that makes a really big statement.

Why is that? Curious, I’ve started to ask the question…

“It’s so dynamic; there is so much to explore and do here.”

“I feel comfortable venturing out and driving around the country to see more areas (in favor of the new roads and despite the poor signage.)”

“After many trips and many years, we keep finding new places and discoveries and still enjoy the ‘old’ ones.”

“It feels like a ‘stand-on-its-own-two-feet-country’ and not a trendy tourism destination.”

“The people, the people are so genuine and welcoming.”

“I don’t know, there’s just something that keeps drawing us back.”

All are legitimate responses and all address a common attraction. I personally keep coming back here (13 plus years full time) quite simply because I can’t imagine a better quality of life anywhere else right now.

My personal reasons have become cliches for the remote reader and perhaps under appreciated elements for the full-timer: climate, natural beauty, biodiversity, simplicity, innocence, opportunity, healthy energy, relaxed lifestyle, the outdoor connection, locally produced food, and diverse and rich community & friends.

There’s something (or many things) that define this attraction for all of us. Identify what keeps bringing you back and work towards making these things an ongoing part of our short time on this planet.
