MemberBoy you must of really had your heart broken or something. First I am a Buddhist, I do not worship women…simply respect all sentient beings.

MemberWe are building a home there and for us it is a vacation home. We decided to buy/build for a number of reasons, we felt it was a good long term investment, we spend up to 2 months there every year and within the near future hope to spend 4-6 months. Also we are in the Central Pacific and prices are going through the roof, we only wanted beach property in this area(near Jaco). Our #1 reasons for wanting a piece of Costa Rica to call our own is because we love the country! And whether this boom continues or goes bust it wont change the sunsets or surf or beautiful jungles and the wonderful Ticos and a million other things we love about this place. If you are moving here renting for a year sounds like the way to go to test the waters and see if things work out. It’s a lot easier to pack up and leave if you don’t have to sell a home, on the other hand if you know the country well and would want a presence there either way, buying could be wise. Either way good luck!

MemberI bet Margie must be very surprised at all the responses to her article! I enjoy her pieces as well as most of the other articles on this site, especially the ones written by people living here and what brought them etc(keep them coming Scott!)..Bottom line is she seems like a really nice woman, just looking to date! Then she gets slammed with Diego the “amateur sociologist” and Suffragette Tim; these two guys should team up for a radio show and can follow Rush Limbaugh! Lol…you know sometimes opposites really do attract, I would suggest Diego or Tim dropping Margie a line..could be the start of a beautiful relationship?

MemberI agree with some of the points you make…but you only want to hear yourself talk and are convinced you are right. There is no point to argue with you(you evidently have it all figured out) it will only lead around and around. Pura Vida.

MemberDiego I don’t think it is necessary to slam Gringos so generally. Why not a happy medium? A man can be a man and a woman can be a woman and we can respect and appreciate each others traits/genetic predispositions. Lets all just respect each other, these masculine and feminine traits you worship are only as “good” as the culture in which they have come from. Our northern society is more transparent than yours and woman who are beaten/abused can seek the protection of the law(no it’s not perfect). In many “muchisimo” cultures woman have no choice except to bear it(although there appears to be a growing women’s rights movement in C.R.) and stay in line. How many men in Latin countries feel it is alright that they have affairs, but what if the woman was bored with her man and went looking for something on the side? I think you know the answer to that…My girlfriend is a strong intelligent very beautiful woman, and she appreciates my masculine quality’s and romancing her etc…She would not be happy being told how to run her life, me having affairs, out with the boys with no regard to her etc..and I would not want to treat another human being as anything but my “equal”, and please don’t tell why we can not be equals; men are bigger, less emotional, fight all the wars etc…etc.. etc…Respect: that is the foundation of my point when you don’t have respect and equality then the door is open for all sorts of interpretations; Latinos are lazy, Jews are not trust worthy, blacks belong back in the jungle, whites are devils. This would sound ludicrous in a sane world but unfortunately many people think along these lines, because this is what they have been been told by parents, teachers society. By no means am I suggesting we live in a homogeneous world, I enjoy all the various cultures and when among other peoples try my best to respect there traditions. But the expectation of all humanity to be treated fairly and with respect is where I draw the line in the sand and that does not make me a sissy boy! Lol..

MemberI know of one person who was treated there for a serious infection to a cut she got while surfing. They provided very good care and were able to get her fixed up. The doctor spoke some English but not much. I was in a public hospital in Nicoya and although by U.S. standards it was a wake up call, overall the care was good and my doctor seemed very competant. When I was later checked out in CIMA, the Doc there thought the meds prescibed could have been more specific to my condition and was in slight disagreement about the treatment although what was done was fine. All in all I felt much more comfortable at CIMA as there level of care from soup to nuts was A1!

MemberI would like to ad that boredom is a state of mind. How many wealthy people are there with seemingly everything they could need here in the U.S. and they’re bored or unhappy? What do they have in Florida, a flat hot and humid state, that there isn’t in Costa Rica? I really believe if we are searching for “things” to keep us happy we will never truly find happiness, we’ll just keep going from one thing to the next and when things run out we sit in front of the tv 5 hours a day. I think in a place like Costa Rica there is a far greater chance of finding happiness if you shift you consciousness and just accept the present moment. Really you can do this anywhere, but certainly in Costa Rica.

MemberA month sounds good to me, we have not had a significant price reduction yet. Properties are sitting for months!!! I started in around 91 and properties would sit and sit and some would never sell and would have to be rented out for years.

MemberI thought it was the Los Suenos marina and they were just including it in there video, not mentioning that it is a few km’s away to the north. Scott seems to think it has been super imposed on the north end of Jaco. I have not been down for about 6 months and just can not visualize it all. Is it even the Los Suenos marina?

MemberMS you are correct, T-Mobile will not unlock a phone for you. When you get a phone from a provider the phone is set up to only work with the provider who issued you the phone(Locked), you can have a phone un locked which allows it to work with any provider of service. What this means if you have a phone that was provided to you from cinqular, it will not work if you decided to switch to T-Mobile, unless you “un lock” it. They probably do this because most providers either give you a phone for free or at a discount when you sign up. $40 dollars to un lock a phone is the going rate, but if you shop around a little bit you may find someone to do it for you for half that. Also be careful buying a phone on e bay, I recently did this and the phone was not un locked as the ad specified. I had to file a complaint with pay pal and eventually got a refund and sent the phone back…just the kind of hassle I don’t need!! I am surprised to hear a phone someone bought from T Mobile here in the states worked with a Costa Rica service provider, perhaps they un locked it for you? It’s a mystery…

MemberCindy you are right on the money with that, it will get worse, much worse before it gets better. And if you bought your home 5 or 10 years ago you still should have enough equity to make a profit. But everything will sell at the right price, and the smart sellers will be ahead of the curve, realize this and price to sell before everyone else wakes up(panics) and the market is flooded with homes. As a wise man once said, “You can’t go broke making a profit”.
