The papers I had to fill in did not have much to do with the public registry, but we will find out.

in reply to: Tourist Visa Renewal?? #197673

I have been reading the still existing and the new law (for 2010).
In both you can apply for turist extention. Regarding to the new law (2010) you have to pay the 100 $. You have to apply BEFORE the 90 days are over and show the funds to survive the period of extention. In both laws it sounds that you can only get ONE extention and then have to leave. The still existing law says that you can extend another 90 days which is actually not the case. An Information sheet from Migracion says that they grant a max. of 60 days.

it is only 72 hours for those who have to deal with customs duties (or how you call that), that means if you go for example to San Andres and buy stuff tax free.
There is nothing written in the costa rican immigration law that tourists have to leave for 72 hours. You can cross the border and come back 2 hours later, no problem.

I think you better ask at the Costa Rican Consulat in Poland, or at the Immigration office in San Jose.

Getting title on a (abandoned) squattered piece of land takes many years (if it happened at all). Someone who starts the process by the time he gets retired would probably not be alive by then. And without title, there are more illegal actions involved, such as building without building permits etc.
Costa Rica definately does not need any more criminals !!

in reply to: Costa Rican Banks Freezing Bank Accounts? #196318

Forgot to say that it can happen that an account gets inactivated, if you do not have any movement for a certain amount of time (months). Just online-transfer one dollar from one account to the “frozen” one and it gets activated again. In case of Euro-Account at BN you have to fill in a form (stupid !!)
SINPE transactions normally take 24 hours or over the weekend. The “most emotional” wire transfer from Germany to Costa Rica took 3 months for the money to get posted at BN … and the sender was sweating blood !! This was 15 years ago.

in reply to: Making Money in Costa Rica #196261

If you have a job that can be done online then you can do it from anywhere in the world. Just register your business and pay the taxes in the country you are living.
But, as in any business, you do not know if you will make money or no, there is no guarantee. Job or not, if you want to live in Costa Rica you should get residency.
A friend (a german business man who makes a lot of money on the global market) said one day “if you want to make one million dollars in Costa Rica, you have to bring two millions……”

Add to the list : German Cheese Cake

To find : Nowhere in Costa Rica

I have to make it from scratch, only the cheese processing takes 2 – 3 days…….

(forget about the german bakeries, there is not much German in that stuff)

in reply to: Homes made of bambo #195396

Any experience with bugs in Bamboo homes ?

Normally wood structures are more inviting to bugs then concrete houses.
Same might happen with bamboo, you have to fumigate regularely, or get used to all kind of bugs.

The best way to do nothing wrong and almost everything right is, go to the next office of Ministerio de Trabajo, together with your future worker (plus wife if she will be working too) and explain what you need to be done and what you are providing (house, food ? etc.)They tell you what the minimum wage will be for the job. Pay full salary and charge rent. Or instead of paying rent they have to guard at night (value will off course be included in end of year benefits, CCSS, INS etc.). If they are not getting paid for night-guarding you can not really expect them to be there every night, they may want to visit family or whatsoever over the weekend etc. Whatever you agree on, draw a contract with an attorney. Wages have to be raised 1st of january and 1st of july.
