ParticipantWas told by the owner of a gun store, yesterday, that if you have a Tico in your SA, possibly your lawyer, they can purchase a weapon on your behalf. But, is this more ‘risky’ than it is worth? It won’t help with a carry permit, obviously.

ParticipantI think the point was made saying “…fundraiser”. People will more likely attend a fundraiser, rather that a money maker for another persons business.
The Canadian Club hosts many functions throughout the year and they all start at lunch time and is over by 5pm. with the exception of the co-hosted Christmas Dinner & Dance, where we all fun but complain at the cost 🙄costaricafinca
ParticipantYou want to read this article on Lodges/hotels on the Osa Penisula what was pertinent when you purchased your property may be invalid, now.

ParticipantOh Bob, the cruisers don’t get off the ship in Limon to listen to the music they can hear at home. Or they can just stay on board to hear the oldies.
There’s no way we would head to a concert either.
There has been some outdoor concerts on the Pacific side, but I can’t say if these still happen.
I think the performers would need to be ‘pretty popular’ to get the younger or even the ex-pat audience to attend.costaricafinca
ParticipantLovely work, maravilla!

ParticipantA member ‘PM’ me, and while answering I thought I would add this here.
If one is on a seriously strict budget, I personally suggest purchasing an existing property where you know exactly where you stand. And there are lots to chose from, out there.
Presently, I know of a woman near us, who home will never be ‘completed’ due to unexpected/unbudgeted expenses….plus problems with the roof structure because she insisted on cutting corners and her insistence in doing it ’her way’.costaricafinca
ParticipantWhile “The price of the land is set and we are working with one of the top law firms in San Isidro' it doesn’t really make any difference in building costs or guarantee that here will be no surprises later on 😆
Another comment though, if this is ’semi-retirement' does this mean you mean to leave the property ’unattended’ while you return to your home base? This may cause you some problems unless you arrange for to stay on your property when you are gone.costaricafinca
ParticipantIn response to Johns quote ”how do you know that the ‘organic foods’ that you are probably paying extra money for, are really and truly organic? Have you personally visited all the farms and fields where they are raised?”.
There was a ‘similar discussion’ on another forum recently where I stated ”There is no guarantee where you buy your fruit & veggies to be absolutely sure if the is organic or not, but in the case of many small farms they simply cannot afford to spray and purchase fertilizers, so I always feel that they are ’organic by default'
And if you have never tried to grow a garden in tropical conditions, you have absolutely no idea on how difficult and how much physically exhausting/demanding work, it can be.”
To be “declared an organic gardener one must not plant anything within a 15 mt perimeter/border of your land” that borders a neighbor who may use sprays, fertilizer, etc on his property, so this is extremely difficult and more often ignored.
I do know for a fact that many farmers/gardeners use ‘ground water’ which originates in the vicinity where cattle graze or river water and have done so for many years so when ‘testing the water’ there is a percentage of ‘residual fecal matter’ that will be used in the garden.
So, even in a personal garden, where your water may come from a similar source, not from a deep well or AyA, one may be be ’fertilizing your lettuces' without knowing it.costaricafinca
ParticipantI wasn’t sure whether you meant the ’slide togethers' as David mentions or the whole wall which is aprefabricated cement panel? Since you were dealing with some in San Jose I thought it may be the latter.
We checked into the sliding panels and again, as David says, the finishing is the trick and making sure there is no openings at all for the wind to make worse.
For the same cost you quote, you can go for a decent sized block home constructed by a local company who do these all the time. But you will get what you pay for…
We are presently using a local contractor to construct a block house, and are very pleased with his work and he is doing everything, wiring sand plumbing, to North American standards.costaricafinca
ParticipantExactly…what is ‘…our kind of music’? Not jazz, you say, maravilla. Not heavy rock, say I…
It sounds like the poster has no idea of the variety of what is actually here. And since there are ex-pats of all ages groups living in CR so different notes for different folk 😆costaricafinca
ParticipantIn some areas we have had no rain for months! This is typical weather for the Caribbean side.
May is going into the rainy season, so rates may be lower.costaricafinca
Participant”Listening to our kind of music…” is making a statement that you may wish to avoid in the future.
If you had a legal residency status, then playing a ‘gig’ every so often, you may be safe…but you should also be careful. Using a ‘tip jar’ may be the best idea.
If you apply for a work visa as a musician, your wife will be required to apply separately.costaricafinca
ParticipantJoan, ‘search’ the forums for previous posts on this subject as there are some ‘there’.

ParticipantSomeone recently posted a link to access a site showing the cost of electricity per klw. but I can’t find it, now that I want to look at it.
Does anyone know ‘where this is’?costaricafinca
ParticipantMy husband reminded me, that using cement post where there is a lot of cattle on either side, is not a good idea, as the big beasts love to ‘rub’ on them, so the tend to break and need to be replaced more often. This is what many of the cattle ranchers around told him. And if you have cattle they also like the ‘fresh greenery’ on the living fences!
A couple of a neighbors cattle wandered in last year, after breaking a cement post quite some distance from our house and ignored all my plants with the exception of the Cordyline plants, from which they eat the top off of every one. This happened in Turrialba as well, where we used this as a ‘living/privacy hedge’ and when any cows were being moved, they trimmed it back for us…
So, check first, for cow/goat resistant or undesirable plants of which Jatropha curcas the plant used for bio-fuel, is one. -
