ParticipantAs of today, it is still closed.
Check the local online news websites for new info. as it is reported that it may open tomorrow…costaricafinca
ParticipantYes, a single or married couple must have a guaranteed pension or annuity of $1000 per month. ‘Common law’ spouses must apply separately.
If you do not have the required monthly funds, you must follow the requirements for Rentista status, which means a deposit of $150,000 (married couple/family or each individual) in an account deemed acceptable.
Check the website of ARCR for more detailed information.costaricafinca
ParticipantThere has been property, well priced in good conditions, locations that have been on the market for years!
I have quoted that same statement, many times.costaricafinca
ParticipantI didn’t ‘read’ that into her/his post either.

ParticipantI notice that Lotus says ”…it’s strange we only see a handful of people on here complaining”?
What percentage of ex-pats living here, *Lotus, do you think read and participate in this forum?
There are ‘regulars’ of which I am one, but many just ask their questions and are never heard from again.
Having lost funds in other projects here, I wish those of you who have invested, the best of luck in getting something …costaricafinca

ParticipantI wouldn’t guarantee it….but even then, it could take a couple of years to get your Permanent status, but at least you can enjoy the wait…

ParticipantIt can take up to a year to gain any Resident status, so expect to leave, when necessary.
I expect that you have read that you cannot do any ’physical/actual work’ yourself, so must hire local or legal workers.:cry:costaricafinca
ParticipantYou can check out ‘Craigs list’, but it is quite difficult to find a rental, especially a long time rental here. You would be better off to make arrangement for a months stay at a B&B or vacation rental in the La Fortuna area, while you search around the area, as when any rental appears, they are ‘snapped up’ so you really need to be here in person to physically check it out.
Realize that you are legally, only allowed to stay for 90 days then you must leave to renew your tourist visa. Else you may be fined and/or deported….costaricafinca
ParticipantDavid, you are correct, as is Andrew in stating that what you do, can live with or without, should be your only concern.

ParticipantAn article written by John Holtz last week mentions that 40% return. I contacted him, asking where he received his info, and he replied that ’he got this from the US Embassy, two years ago’.
I would think that some returnees have found that their pension that they were receiving under the old, old law, are no longer sufficient to live on.costaricafinca
ParticipantWell, you hit it lucky! I don’t need any more, as mine are producing but others ‘on the hunt’ can try there too.

ParticipantIf you make it into Costa Rica, I suggest you leave your attitude at home.
