Please see the following article:

The comprehensive Spanish El Ministerio de Trabajo y Seguridad Social website is here.

For a “jardinero” you would be expected to pay c8,749.38 colones per day (about US$17) plus the usual CAJA contributions if he/she is an employee rather than an independent company hired by the job … .

Does that help?

Up near Lake Arenal, we pay 1,200 colones an hour for our gardener. Our housekeeper asked for 1,000 colones an hour but we give her 5,000 for 4 hours – she is fantastic – and works twice a week.

As is true with people everywhere, our housekeeper and gardener appreciate small courtesies. When we found out she was walking over a mile to get here – on dangerous roads – we decided to pick up and drop off our housekeeper. We also paid her for the two days she did not work while we were in the US for a week.

The housekeeper (Empleada Domestica) monthly wage as of 01/2012 is 139,558.75 colones. I am assuming that covers a 5 1/2 day workweek which works out to about 875 colones per hour.
Scott provided the latest for the Jardinero (crear jardines).
