My wife, 16 yr old daughter and myself (and golden retriever!!) may be making the plunge and will try a 6 month to 2 year stint in CR. I think we would shoot for arrival around December…just depends on what the school in CR suggests I guess.

We want to stay in Escazu with ideas of her attending Country Day School. I’m just wondering about suggestions for good, safe living locations in the Escazu area with other kids or expat families her age. Our rental budget is probably between $1500 to $2500.

Also, as we are not planning on a long term stay, is it better to bring your own car or buy one?

u r in luck. i have the perfect car for escazu city driving…
2005 v.w. jetta WAGON (perfect for yur golden as my golden Lucas loves the car!!) just shipped from the states..
one owner car and if u r not going to be here for more than a year or so dont ship. actually shipping is a pain now so go the easy route and purchase from a known entity.

There are plenty of safe areas in Escazu but there aren’t “plenty” of good quality furnished homes available for rent …

The ONLY REaltors that will be recommended on this site for the Escazu area for sales or rentals are:

Martin Gill who you can see at:

And Mayra Claveria who you can see at:

Since this is a short term stay, and wouldn’t expect you to apply for residency, realize you are expected to leave the country every 90 days to remain legal.

Call Diane Sobel-Globerman 8377.0060. She and her husband own several homes in Vista De Oro which is within walking distance of Country Day School. We have some friends that lived in one of their homes for about a year and it was a great experience. Bring a car for which there is a good market here like a Hyundai Santa Fe or a Honda Mini Van. This is a simple process and we can discuss it off list if you end up coming down. Pura Vida, Jerry
