Has anyone driven from Arizona to San Jose Costa Rica? My husband plans to do this soon, I don’t think it is a good idea. He has very limited use of Spanish.

No firsthand experience on that but…..
-alternative 1: check the U.S. State Dept. website on motor travels through the area;
-alternative 2: plead & beg not to do this;
-alternative 3: if all else fails, ASAP buy a VERY large life insurance policy on him.NO NO NO – very bad idea. Serious physical danger in Mexico and serious financial danger everywhere!!

My only comment is for ALL the sooooo many people who say it is dangerous, How many have actually done it them selfs?? My guess none of them have made the trip or tried to make the trip. Ron USCG RetAbout 2 years ago, while in Peurto Viejo (Caribbean side) I ran into a couple from Quebec Canada. They were driving a pickup truck and towing a trailer. He spoke french and she spoke spanish fluently . They had mechanical problems in Nicaragua and got repairs done without inceident and at at a good price. Their plan was to continue to Panama and then head back up the west coast.
Basically they were doing a large circle of North and central America.
I don’t know how the return trip turned out but they were quite happy with their adventure to that point. Don’t drive @ night.Tom
