I believe I have read info on this site in the past for recommendations for a dentist to perform dental implants; however, I cannot find the article. Any recommendations or warnings?
    Thank you.

I have lived here since 1992 and have utilized the same dentist for all those years. My trusted lawyer’s wife is related to this dentist and I have never seen a foreigner in his waiting room. On August 9, 2007, I visited him in San Jose. Dr. Rodolfo Hernandez Romero who is a 60+ years old, educated in Michigan and he examined my teeth and then (the dentist not a hygienist) cleaned my teeth. 1st he used his hydrostatic pressure cleaner. 2nd he scraped the teeth with the metal pick. Finally he polished my teeth with his electronic buffer using a very tasty gel. Cost was 10,000 colones for each step. So it cost me $58 for the exam and cleaning. During his exam he discovered that I had pitting on the front of several teeth which he said probably was caused by brushing horizontally over the years instead of vertically. He recommended applying the highest quality filling material that is manufactured in Lichtenstein to cover the craters. Cost for the preparation and installing the imported filler is $58.00 per tooth. His son in the same office is a dental implant specialist.

This week a friend from Florida staying at the Presidente Hotel in San Jose who came here specifically to have 6 implants installed and this is his 2nd trip to have this work completed by the same dentist. During his 1st trip he had 2 implants and crowns installed and the total procedure took 3 days. The dentist arranged for hotel and transport from the airport and daily for the office visits. The cost he paid is $500 per tooth for titanium steel covered with bone material implants. The actual procedure takes less than 30 minutes per tooth. The impressions and the porcelain crowns cost $250 each. This dentist makes the crowns right in his office so my friend had the impression made on Monday and the crowns installed on Tuesday. This dentist charges $70 for deep cleaning. My friend said that this dentist, educated at the U of Missouri, who does the implants as well as his son who takes the impressions and installs the crowns are not only professionals but great people as well. The dentist is Dr. Marco A Munoz Cavallini. http://www.aestheticdentistrycr.com

Tomorrow morning I have an appointment with my dentist here in the USA. It is to check out how my implant is healing. The first one failed and he had do do a bone graft. This one seems to be alright, but we will see in the morning.
The reason I bring this up is the cost factor. $1800 for the implant and another $1500 to $1800 for the crown. Another dentist does the crown, so I haven’t gotten the exact price yet. And the total time, with the failed implant and graft will be 6-7 months.
Had I known better, before I started this procedure, I would have done it on a visit to CR, and the savings would have paid for the vacation.
I can tell you from research I did after the fact, the dentist in Costa Rica, if I would have used the three month healing time implant, would be using the exact same screw type implant post I have now. His price would have been roughly one third the cost, for the total job with crown.
I could have gotten the same day implant in CR at about half the cost of what I am paying for the post alone in the USA.

    Next time I know better.

I have been using DentaVac in Escazu http://www.dentavac.com/

They are a totally professional team, all educated in the U.S., Switzerland and other countries I don’t remember. My Dentists Dr. Baez and Dr. Meza are the best you can find and they all speak perfect English. We have up-to-date facilities here in Bermuda but DentaVac is by far the nicest Dentistry I have ever visited. Here in Bermuda I was quoted $25,000 for the work needed doing, DentaVac is going to charge me $7,500 and they are going to do about 40% more. You can find DentaVac’s rates on the site listed above.

I second the recommendation for Mario Garita in Itskatsu plaza in Escazu. Right off the highway in the same plaza as Hooters and Outback. He is highly professional and well trained. Speaks perfect english also. Went to school at University of Miami and has the highest credentials and top notch equipment. Great guy with very professional service.

Have I got an AWESOME Dental Implant Specialist for you (& Dentist)!!!!!!

I have guests that finished Phase #1 of their implant surgery with Dr. Arnoldo Anglada & WOW!!

Pain Management was a big issue with Derek (my guest) & this was one of the big deciding factors in picking “Arnoldo” (what he asks you to call him – NO ego here!) over the other dentist they saw. He offers just about every form of pain management there is from the standard – local anesthetic, to the FUN nitrosoxide/laughing gas, also IV sedation (which was only $300) to total anesthesia in a hospital. Even when he had his teeth cleaning, they gave him special eye goggles to watch videos which diverted his energy away from thinking about any potential pain!!

Not only does Arnoldo speak GOOD English but when Derek was in surgery (he opted for IV sedation where he was kinda knocked out but you still seem to have your motor faculties about you he said), one of the assistants started to speak in Spanish & he said to her “English Please” – which sounds like he has a policy that when a client just speaks English – he asks his staff to respect that.

When they initially called, he was with a client & he personally called them back 30 minutes later & he was in for his initial visit at 8pm that night (he was literally a last minute job as he wasn’t overly thrilled with the initial doctor he came to see both in his not being as sensitive to his pain issues as well as too many complaints from patients waiting in his waiting room).

I sent Arnold an email & HE (not his assistants) emailed me back 40 minutes later on his lunch break. THAT’s IMPRESSIVE to me!!!

Surgery Day – Derek went in for his first surgery at 6pm & was out by 8:30pm. Arnoldo even helped them out to the taxi! My gang felt Arnoldo is such a GENUENLY compassionate person!

The EXCITING NEWS!!! Derek NEVER got ANY black & blue marks & hardly any swelling (I’m sure his mom staying up throughout the night changing his ice helped a LOT also [HINT – the good thick surgical gloves make AWESOME ice packs!])!!

They TOTALLY sang the phrases of Arnaldo & now Derek doesn’t have any issues about finishing off the other phases over the next year!

Arnoldo has people in his office to do Teeth Cleaning (Karin does it & she speaks GREAT English) & Bleaching with laser!

Another HUGE factor in selecting him was when we went searching/asking around – his name kept coming up again & again – ALL REALLY POSITIVE comments about him!

His rates were even better than the others (though that was NOT a factor in choosing him). You get the best rate paying cash or personal check but they take credit cards (+5%). I believe they can even work out some sort of payments.

I was told there are only THREE/3 dentists CERTIFIED to do implants in Costa Rica (does anyone know where to verify that? If you do go elsewhere – to me, that would be IMPORTANT to know!!).

I spoke to him on the phone & got a “Good Vibe” & I’m pretty darn right-on with my “vibes” (oh, & when I saw we share the same birthday – 6/9 – I KNEW it HAD to be him!!)!! Oh, & he’s a real hottie based on the pics (& the reports I got back from my guests mom & grandma!!).

He’s works in a Medical Office with Dr. Eduardo Castro (290-2121) who’s a General Dentist doing Teeth Cleaning, Bleaching (laser!!), Root Canals, Bridges, Crowns, other Cosmetic dental procedures, even amalgamate (those nasty metal/toxic filings) removal & just about everything else related to dental work (other than implants).

At the end of the day – from what NUMEROUS people have shared with their experiences – Dr. “Arnoldo” Anglada seems to be THE MAN for MANY (& the man for me when I get my $$ resources together!!)!!!

If you go to him – tell him Vicki with The Fountains Guesthouse in Escazu referred you & if you need a place to stay – keep us in mind!!!

I have bad experience with Dr. Garita. He overcharged me a lot. And his job is very poor quality: he made one side of denture higher than other. Pink stuff goes to high and teeth look like dirty. He put in bill price of four Post & Core, but did only ONE. He “fix” them even into my wisdom teeth, wich I lost 46 years ago. He didn’t give me receipt for addition $1,520.00 I paid him. Please, someone, call him and tell: he MUST to send a receipt to Florida – he knows my address. I need it for IRS. Thank you for your help.
