“Shortly before 1 p.m. today, Johnny Araya Monge, candidate for the presidency, was on his way to the Hotel Corobici for what his campaign said was an important announcement.
The Partido Liberación Nacional candidate was expected to say that he will not actively continue his campaign. A.M. Costa Rica cannot confirm this. La Nación, the Spanish language newspaper, is reporting that he is resigning the candidacy.
However, others say that this is not possible, and that there still will be a runoff vote between Araya, the former San José mayor, and Luis Guillermo Solís, of the Partido Acción Ciudadana April 6. ARaya is believed lagging in the polls.”
