One of my favorite parts of the Costa Rica culture is that most families continue to eat their meals together.

For most Americans a family meal anymore is a rare occasion saved for special occasions and holidays, but in Costa Rica it’s still common practice for families to eat dinner together every night.

And when I say eat together I mean just that, it doesn’t mean in front of a TV, or with half the kids glued to iPods, cell phones, or computers.

I have no doubt that spending time each day talking, sharing, and laughing as a family at the dinner table is one of the key reasons Costa Rican families are so close.

Lucky for me I’m married to a wonderful Costa Rican woman so I’ve had the chance to really appreciate and absorb that family tradition and try to always remember how important it is to spend precious time with our loved ones.

Families That Eat Together, Stay Together

Hopefully all of you get a chance to experience a home cooked meal with a Tico family, just make sure you practice up on your Spanish, because otherwise you might miss some great conversations and jokes.
