I’m from New York, “the city that never sleeps”, so whenever I’ve traveled I’ve often been surprised at the all-too-early sound of the “last call” bell in bars worldwide. Not in Playa Sámara.

For such a small pueblito, there is a surprising amount of after-dinner action. Live music and open-mic can be enjoyed several nights a week at Hotel Rancho de la Playa from 7 until 10 p.m and at Cafe Carola’s on Wednesdays.

Next stop La Vela Latina beach bar or Gusto beach for some yummy frozen libations. But that’s just the warm up!

A little later get ready to take it to the dance floor! If you’re looking for top 40, pop, reggae and a little latin music try Tabanuco (Thursdays/Fridays on the beach) or Club Arriba (Saturdays/Mondays, upstairs on the main drag). Music starts about 9 pm, but it really gets going around 11 or even midnight!

If you’re looking for a more authentic local experience check in with the owners of Sol y Mar and Bar Meli’s to see if they’re hosting a live band or karaoke while you’re here. There spots really offer you the chance to show off those Latin dance moves you’ve been working on or to sing “La Bamba” to your heart’s content.

If the late night scene really isn’t your thing, try happy hour! La Vela Latina’s got the perfect spot to watch the sun set on the beach while sipping on 2 for 1 drinks from 5 to 7pm. Coco’s Mexican has 2 for 1 margaritas from 6pm to close everyday! But happy hour specials can be found in pretty much every bar in town- try them all!

Of course with so much to do during the day, you may never make it out at night! The options are endless here in the small town paradise of Playa Sámara.
