PLEASE do not leave your brain on the plane!

Whether you are just “getting your feet wet” at the beach or surfing, paddle boarding, swimming or whatever, we must remember that when we plunge into that big blue Pacific or Atlantic ocean, we are putting ourselves into a totally different environment in which we were not designed to survive for long periods of time.

Last week three young students from Columbus, OH were spending their very last day in Costa Rica at the beach when they were swept out to sea.

Their bodies were found a few days later and I had tears in my eyes reading their story…

One hates to speculate about the unfortunate deaths of anyone but I’m guessing that when they first went into the water, they could probably feel a strong current around their legs but with all the excitement amongst their friends on their last day in Costa Rica they just kept on going…

If you are at any beach and enter the water up to your knees only and feel a strong current – unless you are a very powerful and experienced swimmer who understands the risks – please do not go any deeper into the water and for goodness sake, don’t allow your children to play near the water without a responsible adult – who’s also a powerful swimmer – always close by …
